Abstract
An instrument for solving mathematical problems and involves nomograms that enable the manipulation of a straight line to read off the value of a dependent variable when the value of an independent variable is given, thereby computing by means of graphic representation systemmatic solutions to said problems capable of numerical calculation. With this invention there are immovable scales and it is the calculating line that is moved by manipulation to intersect the said scales at read-off points where memory indicators are positioned for reference, there being a plurality of calculating lines and a multiplicity of memory indicators operable at each and/or both sides of the instrument, which is accordingly capable of the basic mathematics of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and also other functions such as subjection of variables to roots, exponents and reciprocals.

4117313 - Calculator for laying out parking lots

A calculator for facilitating the layout of parking lot stalls of desired length and width at a desired angle. The calculator includes a first member having orthogonal length and width scales as well as angle indicators relating to desired stall angle. A second member is pivotable on the first, and includes indicia related to desired stall length and width. The second member is positioned for pivoting on the first, is aligned according to the desired stall data to provide a direct readout of the orthogonal length and width dimensions necessary to lay out the stalls.

4203542 - Calculating apparatus - Owned by Foseco International Limited (Birmingham,GB2)

A calculator is described which greatly simplifies the calculation of the required feeder head parameters, e.g. size, amount of antipiping compound, in casting metals. Only the size of the casting section being fed and the normalized inscribed circle relating thereto need to be measured.

6705022 - Method and apparatus for determining a pinion bearing move to align a pinion-to-gear assembly - Owned by Metso Minerals Industries, Inc. (Milwaukee, WI)

A method and apparatus for determining a pinion bearing move to correct pinion-to-gear alignment based on pinion .DELTA. t overcoming the aforementioned drawbacks are provided. Using a realistic visual representation of a gear to pinion mesh showing pressure angles of the gear and pinion as well as the angle of the pinion down from the mill center line allows for a quick and accurate determination of a pinion bearing to align a pinion-to-gear assembly move. Using temperature differential data of the pinion under load conditions, the present invention allows for an easy and efficient means of determining a pinion bearing move to align a pinion-to-gear assembly without requiring complicated manual calculations or data input to a computer program. Furthermore, the present invention is lightweight and portable thereby avoiding the drawbacks often associated with handheld electrical devices and laptop computers.

7242403 - Graphical display of multiple related variables

A system and method for graphically representing on a computer system the relationship between a plurality of variables related by an equation. A graph having a plurality of axes is displayed on a display device and each axis represents one of the variables. Grips are located on each of the axes to indicate the value of the variable represented by the axis. A user can lock one of the grips on its axis and then select one of the unlocked grips and slide the selected grip to a new position indicating a new value on the axis. The remaining grip will slide in relation to the grip being moved by the user and indicate the value of the remaining variable.
