A wiper assembly for cleaning a spiral twist bit on an earth-drilling rig is disclosed. The wiper assembly comprises a first cylindrical tube member mounted on the drilling table of a drill rig. The first tube is mounted concentrically with the drill. A second cylindrical member is mounted concentrically with the first tube and carries, on diametrically opposite portions, pivotally mounted wiper blades. In a first position of the wiper blades, they engage the outer wall of the first tube and are clear of the bore. Each wiper blade is resiliently urged radially inwards and, when the second cylindrical member is displaced towards the lower end of the first tube, the wiper blades pivot inwards and engage the spiral twist bit of the drill. Thus, when the drill is rotated and retracted, it is cleaned by the wiper blades.
The invention relates to an apparatus for cleaning, during its extraction without rotation, of a drill formed from a helical surface wound around an axial stem. It comprises a scraper blade capable of being inserted at will between two turns of the helical drill, and that it comprises a motor for causing the scraper blade to revolve around the stem substantially in synchronism with the speed of extraction of the drill.
An apparatus is provided for cleaning dirt and debris from the stem and flighting of an earth boring auger. The auger cleaner apparatus has an opposed pair of blade assemblies which are brought into mechanical engagement with the stem and flighting of the auger. Once the auger cleaner is engaged about the auger, the user of the apparatus then need only rotate the auger cleaner about the auger to strip off dirt and debris. The auger cleaner has handles which provide mechanical advantage to the user for causing the device to rotate about the auger. The device may be provided with selectively exchangeable blade assemblies for adapting the auger cleaner for use on augers of different sizes and of different manufacturers.
