Abstract
An internal combustion engine and a method of coating a combustion chamber wall surface therein comprising the steps of preheating the base metal forming the wall surface to at least 500.degree. F. and fusion bonding a base layer of nickel and aluminum to the preheated base metal for retarding conductive heat transfer through the wall surface. An intermediate layer comprising nickel, aluminum, and copper is applied over the base layer and an outer layer of copper for reflecting infrared heat is applied over the intermediate layer, which helps to mechanically bond the base layer and outer layer together.
