An earpiece consists of a molding of elastomeric material and has a central recess. An electroacoustic transducer capsule is captively held in said recess by resiliently interengaging with said molding. The molding includes a pluglike projection defining a passage therethrough for receiving a guide rod of a headset strap. The walls bounding the passage frictionally engage the guide rod to mount the earpiece thereon for adjustable displaceable movement.
A headphone assembly includes a pair of headphones that are operationally coupled together. Each of the headphones includes a housing having a first wall, a second wall and a peripheral wall extending between the first and second walls. A plurality of openings extends into first wall. A sound emitter is mounted within the housing. A tubular member has a first end and a second end. Each of the first and second ends is open. A fastener is adapted for selectively attaching the first end of the tubular member to the peripheral wall of the housing such that the first wall is positioned within the tubular member. Each of the second ends of the tubular members may be selectively positioned over an ear lobe such that the ear lobe is positioned within the tubular member.
An active noise reduction headset including a headband and at least one earcup secured thereto. A microphone is mounted within the earcup for detecting and transducing acoustic pressure within the earcup to a corresponding microphone electronic signal. An electronic signal processing unit is mounted within the earcup and coupled with the microphone for generating an anti-noise signal from the microphone electronic signal. A first speaker is mounted within the earcup for receiving and acoustically reproducing an electronic anti-noise signal from the electronic signal processing unit. A second speaker is mounted within the earcup for receiving and acoustically reproducing an electronic communication signal.
An earpiece suitable for use with two-way radios is configured to be captured at least partially within the conchae of an ear. The earpiece is configured for use in either ear. The earpiece is particularly suited for use by police and security personnel because it reduces costs associated with the manufacture, purchase, and inventory thereof, while allowing both the radio and ambient sound to be readily heard through both ears.
