Abstract
A strip for securing a protective disk on a paper roll end has one edge portion encircling a roll margin. The other strip portion is folded inwardly over the disk margin and tucked during rotation of the paper roll, first, by flicking portions of the strip edge with circumferentially spaced balls of a whirling rotor and, then, by creasing the inwardly folded edge portions with a follower presser roller.

3924375 - Automatic crimper - Owned by Beloit Corporation (Beloit, WI)

A crimping device especially adapted for crimping the projecting ends of a dual wrapper, i.e. bubble pack sheet and craft paper, wrapped about a roll of paper, or the like, inwardly onto the ends of the roll where the roll is suspended rotatably above the device. Crimpers having successively operable turning rollers, tucking fingers and crimping and flattening rollers and supported by respective adjustably mounted carriages act on the projecting ends of the wrapper. After the projecting ends have been completely crimped and flattened, the crimpers are retracted and glue guns are moved into position and apply glue to the flattened crimps for attaching head disks to the roll ends.

4534151 - Method and apparatus for packaging paper rolls - Owned by A. Ahlstrom Osakeyhtio (Noormarkku,FI)

A method and an apparatus for packaging paper rolls (2), wherein a wrapper sheet (1) of such a size as to exceed the axial length of the roll is wrapped around the roll and the width of the wrapper sheet is reduced to a size corresponding to the length of the roll by removing the part (5, 6) of the wrapper sheet which extends over the ends of the roll. The header sheet (14, 15) which is bigger than the end surface of the roll, is placed on the ends of the roll and reduced to a size corresponding to the diameter of the roll or smaller by removing at least the part of the header sheet extending over the end surface. Thereafter the header (14, 15) and the wrapper (25) are secured to each other so that a tight joint is formed.

3828523 - AUTOMATIC INSIDE HEAD HOLDER STRUCTURE - Owned by Beloit Corporation (Beloit, WI)

Inside head holder for a crimping apparatus for folding down and tucking in the ends of a wrapper extending beyond the ends of a roll of paper along an inside protective head. The wrapper is crimped by a paddle supported above the roll on a carriage. The paddle is vertically movable relative to the carriage and moves downwardly into engagement with the wrapper extending beyond the roll to crimp the projecting end of the wrapper about an inside protective head for the end of the roll. The head holder is mounted on the carriage and moves upwardly and downwardly with the crimper paddle half the distance of travel of the crimper paddle to thereby divide the diameter of the roll in half as the crimper senses the diameter of the roll. The head holder, therefore, automatically senses the center of the roll and holds a protective head in centered relation with respect thereto during the crimping operation.

4845919 - Ear folding apparatus - Owned by Mitsubishi Jukogyo Kabushiki Kaisha (Tokyo,JP)

An ear folding apparatus for automatically folding and pleating ears of packaging material wrapped around a cylindrical article, such as a coil of strip material, is provided with a pleats-holding/inside-bending guide. The guide has a radially notched section and is movable in the axial direction of the cylindrical article. The apparatus further has a folding unit, which includes a feed roll, a folding roll and a folding claw.

4819408 - Machine for wrapping metal strip coils - Owned by Nuova Italsider SpA (Genoa,IT) Bertolotti SpA (Incisa Valdarno,IT)

The machine, which operates in association with a paper feeder and with a system of rolls for revolving the coil, includes the following equipment: guide rolls resting on the cylindrical surface on the coil; primary folding devices, including screw rollers, for pleating the open ends of the paper against the circular sides of the coil; and secondary folding devices, including additional screw rollers, for bending back the edges of the paper into the hollow core of the coil.
