Abstract
A hand tool of the toggle link or vice grip type provided with structure operative to oppose opening movement of the handles when the latter are oriented relative to the toggle linkage in locking condition in the absence of any reactive force from a workpiece. Such structure takes two basic forms, namely, (a) the compression member of the toggle linkage being swivelly connected at its opposite ends to the handles to hold its swivel connections spaced a substantially constant amount at all times, with coacting detent means carried by one of the handles and the compression member for yieldingly resisting relative movement of such elements from their locking positions, and (b) the provision of structure for limiting closing movement of the members that carry the work engaging elements, whereby such limiting action will result in reactive forces equivalent to the work engaging elements being loaded against a workpiece by closing movement of the handles. Such structure for limiting closing movement of the members can be such as to be subjected to compressive, shear or tensile stresses in the performance of its movement limiting function. In addition to the foregoing, the invention extends to the provision of special work engaging elements that move apart during closing movement of the handles, as well as to various forms of work engaging elements that are detachably mounted, adjustably mounted and pivotally mounted upon the members that are directly attached to the handles. The invention in its various forms involves the centers which are directly connected to the handles being either directly connected about a single pivotal axis as is customary, or being connected by a link, such link having its opposite ends pivotally connected to the members whereby the members are afforded a degree of angular freedom with respect to each other. A pair of such links can optionally be employed to prevent angular movement of members.

The invention relates to a spanner for hexagonal shaped objects (5), comprising an upper and lower jaw (1 or 2), which are respectively connected in a single-piece to the limb of a handle (4 or 3). Both jaws (1, 2) are connected together in a pivoting manner in a length-adjustable single joint (6). The upper jaw (1) comprises a flat, smooth clamping surface (9) and a stop (10). The lower jaw (2) comprises a curved convex, flat clamping cam surface (11), which lies adjacent to a respectively associated lower flank surface (12) for all hexagonal objects (5) of all wrench sizes which are to be accommodated.

A clamp expander for an annular hose clamp includes first and second jaws for engaging first and second ends of the hose clamp. The jaws are mounted on ends of first and second plier sections for translation between open and closed positions thereof. A modified embodiment clamp expander includes first and second arms mounting the first and second jaws. The first arm is fixedly connected to a guide rod and the second arm is slidably mounted thereon for translation between open and closed positions by a draw bolt which connects the arms.

5125158 - Hand manipulated portable cutting and shearing tool with spreader adaptors

A cutting tool for severing a workpiece includes a main frame having a horizontal rail member and a grooved channel running its longitudinal length. There is an upright rigid head formed at one end of the frame which can either be a straight, a C-shaped or a pincerlike type of upright member. The upright head has a slot. The blade can reciprocate along the grooved channel and enter the head so that the blade can fully sever a workpiece placed in the gap between the blade and head. The cutting blade can either be V-shaped or concave shaped. The base of the cutting blade has a flange cooperating with the grooved channel for guiding the blade. The cutting blade is manipulated by a hydraulic piston which is mounted to the rear of the frame. The fluid pressure causes a shaft to extend or retract with the cutting blade attached to it. Additional features of the basic invention include handles for allowing the operator to manipulate the tool and accessories such as a portable hydraulic pump which is powered by a battery operated DC electric motor or an AC electric motor or a small gasoline driven piston engine to turn the hydraulic pump to supply hydraulic fluid under pressure to the cutting tool. There is a spreader adaptor for attachment to the tool to allow the tool to spread apart pieces of metal. There is also a clamping pliers to keep the workpiece from deforming while being cut.

5377567 - Bicycle tool - Owned by Petersen Manufacturing Co., Inc. (DeWitt, NE)

A locking plier hand tool contains first and second jaw elements, wherein each jaw element has a forward end and a rear end. The first jaw element has a main recess formed by first and second contacting portions positioned at an angle to each other and a third contacting portion interconnecting the first and second contacting portions. Each first and second contacting portions has one end connected to the third contacting portion and a free end. The second jaw element is provided with an arc shaped protuberant extending outwardly in the direction of the main recess. A substantially flat member contains at least a rear part and extends between the free end of the second contacting portion of the main recess and the rear part. A substantially flat surface extends rearwardly from the protuberant. A wall is situated remotely to the protuberant. The wall has a free end substantially in engagement with the rear part of the substantially flat member when the hand tool is in the closed position. The protuberance, the wall and the substantially flat surface form an auxiliary recess offset to the main recess. This auxiliary recess restricts the workpiece while the hand tool is in the substantially open position.
