In a copying apparatus having an original carriage, an optical system for projecting therethrough the image of an original upon a copy medium, means for forming a copy image corresponding to the original image, and copy medium storage means corresponding in size to the original, there are provided two or more copy counters capable of counting the number of copies for each copy size.

An image forming apparatus includes a plurality of cassettes which store paper sheets of different sizes and a feeding device for feeding the paper sheets one by one. The image forming apparatus forms an image on the paper sheet fed by the feeding device. A size detector detects the size of the paper sheet which is used. A copying fee is calculated based on the size and number of the sheets used.

A printing machine includes a counter control system which has a plurality of counters, the system being programmed for any one of various billing schemes by inserting an inexpensive field changeable billing code circuit board into the machine. The operations of the counters vary, depending upon which billing code circuit board is inserted, each counter recording information which is needed for the billing scheme selected.

In a billing apparatus of a copier/duplicator machine, a plurality of counters are provided for recording the numbers of the copies made by different counters according to the size of the copies.

An improved metering system is provided for an electrostatic reproduction machine, the latter being capable of operating in either an automatic document handling mode or a manual mode. The system counts the number of originals per job up to a predetermined first number, the total number of originals fed into the machine, and the total number of prints made. What is counted depends on whether the machine is in the automatic mode or in the manual mode and how many prints the machine is programmed to produce.
