Abstract
An improvement in apparatus for dispensing mixtures of fluids having different vapor pressures, held under pressure in liquid and gas phases, in uniform proportions, from a pressurized container comprising the conventional elements of a pressure container, a perforated dip-tube extending within the pressure container through the vapor and liquid spaces of the container when charged and terminating in a closed free end in proximity to a wall of the pressure container, and means to provide controlled fluid flow from within the pressure container. The improvement comprises providing a bottom orifice in the dip-tube, substantially at the end of the dip-tube which terminates in the liquid space of the container when charged with fluid, and at least one upper orifice smaller in diameter than the bottom orifice located in the dip-tube at points corresponding to the levels at which from about 10-90 percent volume of the full charge of liquid is present in the pressure container. The apparatus is particularly suited for removing non-azeotropic refrigerant mixtures from pressurized containers in which such mixtures are stored and dispensed.

5022442 - Apparatus and method for high pressure gas mixing - Owned by Acetylene Gas Company (St. Louis, MO)

An apparatus and method for high pressure gas filling of gas cylinders is disclosed. The apparatus includes an elongated filling tube for a pressurized gas cylinder having a valve regulator/fitting sealed in an opening at one end of the gas cylinder, the elongated filling tube extending within the cylinder and being attached at one end to the valve regulator/fitting. The elongated filling tube is provided with longitudinally spaced transverse openings along the length thereof to facilitate intermixing of gases injected into the cylinder under pressure. The method of high pressure gas mixing within a pressurized cylinder includes the steps of injecting a predetermined volume of a first gas under a predetermined pressure into the cylinder, and injecting a remaining volume of at least one other gas under a greater predetermined pressure into the cylinder, while also intermixing the molecules of the first and the at least one other gas together throughout the cylinder in order to produce a desired gas mixture within the pressurized cylinder.

4528919 - Multi-phase fluid flow divider - Owned by Union Oil Company of California (Los Angeles, CA)

The instant invention relates to an apparatus and method for dividing a flowing multi-phase fluid to provide at least two separate fluid streams wherein each fluid stream has substantially the same ratio of phases. This apparatus and method are especially useful for dividing a fluid having a gaseous and a liquid phase e.g. ammonia, to provide at least two separate fluid streams wherein each fluid stream has about the same weight ratio of liquid phase to gaseous phase. The apparatus includes a fluid inlet chamber in fluid communication with at least two separate fluid outlet chambers through a plurality of fluid conduits. Each of the fluid conduits has a fluid conduit inlet opening communicating with the fluid inlet chamber and a fluid outlet opening communicating with one of the fluid outlet chambers. The fluid conduit inlet openings are arrayed in a plurality of groups, wherein each group has at least two members, and the fluid conduits are adapted to provide that each fluid outlet chamber is in fluid communication with only one member of each group of fluid conduit inlet openings. This apparatus and method may be used for distributing equal amounts of ammonia as a mixture of ammonia vapor and ammonia liquid, to the soil. A system for distributing ammonia to the soil which includes the apparatus is also disclosed.

4836018 - Rain gauge with improved syphon discharge

An improved rain gauge in which a large rain collector feeds collected rain into a receptacle having 1/5 the cross-sectional area, and in which a float and counterweight connected by a flexible strand passing over a pulley mechanism creates electrical impulses with each 1/100 inch of rainfall added to the receptacle, and in which the receptacle is periodically emptied by a syphon device of generally U-shaped contour providing intake leg and discharge leg, wherein complete emptying of the syphon tube is facilitated by incorporating within the discharge leg thereof a small diameter tube closed at the top end, open at the bottom end, and having a plurality of small holes spaced longitudinally thereof, whereby air entering the small tube and passing through the longitudinally spaced holes therein, serves to equalize air pressure and permit the full discharge of liquid from the syphon tube.

6234352 - Method and apparatus to reduce fractionation of fluid blend during storage and transfer - Owned by AlliedSignal Inc. (Morristown, NJ)

A method and apparatus for storing and dispensing in liquid form a blend of fluids which normally fractionate upon boiling. The apparatus includes a container having an internal bladder dividing the container into two chambers. The first chamber contains the liquid blend, and the second chamber contains a pressurizing fluid in sufficient quantity to maintain the pressure on the other side of the bladder in the first chamber above the bubble point pressure of the liquid blend. In this manner, the vapor space above the fluid blend is eliminated, and thus the effect of fractionation caused by vaporization is essentially eliminated during dispensing or leakage of the blend from the package.

7028488 - Method and apparatus to minimize fractionation of fluid blend during transfer - Owned by Honeywell International Inc. (Morristown, NJ)

A method of dispensing a liquid material from a source container which includes a blend of fluids of a first composition that normally fractionate upon boiling. A material of a second composition (different than that of the first composition) and capable of maintaining the first composition of the material remaining in the source container is added to the source container during the transfer of liquid from the source container. This addition of a material of a second composition to the supply container during the transfer can minimize and/or even eliminate fractionation of the liquid in the source tank.
