A device for texturizing painted surfaces in which a plurality of tapered S-shaped resilient petals or flaps depend from a formable backing member. The petals or flaps are of non-uniform length. The device has a removable handle for ease in applying it to wall and ceiling surfaces.
A decorating tool (1) suitable for creating a broken pattern in e.g. flowable paint, varnish or glazes to simulate for example ragging, sponging and rag-rolling effects. The tool (1) comprises flexible flaps (6a and 6b) attached to a roller (2) so that when the roller (2) is rolled across a coat of paint etc, the flaps (6a, 6b) strike the paint and create the broken pattern. The tool may be used to distress the coating whereupon flaps (6a, b 6b) are preferably made from sheepskin or chamois leather. Also a method for creating a broken pattern by use of the roller (2), especially use of the roller to create a broken pattern in a paint, varnish or glaze containing an additive to retard drying.
A wall decorating paint applying device which is composed of a one piece, unitary, soft, compressible, resiliently self-restoring, sponge body having a relieved, design defining, paint imprinting, face. The opposite side of the body is formed with an integral, finger grippable, sponge handle portion for manually handling the device in applying paint to the imprinting face and thereafter correctly positioning the face in compression on a wall surface to be decorated.
A design roller sleeve has a plurality of absorbent strips that wrap about the axis of a paint roller in a helical fashion. Each of the strips has an array of flaps, in which large and small flaps are preferably alternated, extending outward from a backing portion of the strip. This roller is intended to be used for applying a visually random pattern to a uniformly colored and relatively wide horizontal surface such as a concrete driveway or patio When used for this purpose the design roller sleeve is loaded with paint and then spun within a spatter-box to remove excess paint before rolling a partly colored swath on the surface. In some cases the spatter-box is made on a job site by tearing away part of a lid of a shipping carton previously used to transport a design roller painting kit.
A ceiling design tool and method of using the tool for forming plaster designs on walls and ceilings comprising a circular planar face portion having a centered cylindrical handle. The face portion comprises a rubber layer over a burlap layer clamped onto the edge of a circular metal plate. The face portion of the tool is dipped in a fluid plaster mixture and applied to a ceiling or wall surface of either plaster or drywall in a stepwise rolling motion to create a unique textured surface such as half-moons, bead work and scroll patterns.
