A machine for forming and gluing a three-part container having two wall panels and a body panel forming the bottom and the other two walls of the container. The body panel is sealed to the wall panels by flanges which are attached to the bottom and walls of the body panel, and which bend over and are contiguous with the faces of the wall panels. The apparatus carries the body panel into position between a mandrel and a die, and positions the wall panels with respect to the body panel. The mandrel then carries the body panel and wall panels through the die cavity to blend the flanges toward the wall panel, and into a compression section. The compression unit has two active positions: the first holds the bent flanges at an included angle of less than 45.degree. and the second compresses the flanges against the wall panels to bond the flanges to the wall panels. When the compression unit retracts, the container is removed from the machine.
The machine assembles cardboard boxes of the type that comprises a main piece or sheet and two independent sheets comprising the front ends, lateral sheets that attach to some laps that form part of the main piece. As a novel characteristic, it includes some side feeders where the independent lateral sheets are stacked and some devices for conveying such lateral sheets that place them on both sides of the male forming element or mandrel, in whose descent such lateral sheets are conveyed and also the main sheet to the folding mold located underneath where the box assembly will be finally formed. This folding mold also includes some improvements that facilitate the assembly of the box.
A method and apparatus for assembling a carton from a body forming blank and a pair of end forming blanks wherein the end forming blanks each include a pair of side flaps and a bottom flap.
A sliding plunger with rack-shaped opposite sides controls opposite rotations of a pair of rotating sector gears, with which integrally rotate two arms extending up to the proximity of the conveying units. Connecting rods are finally interposed between said arms and said conveying units to transform the rotary motion of the arms into a corresponding translatory motion of said conveying units in opposite senses along fixed rectilinear guides transversally disposed with respect to the carton support base. The control of the sliding of the rack plunger can be given by a pneumatic cylinder or by a hand-control lever. There can be provided adjustable means for limiting the sliding plunger stroke in the sense corresponding to the mutual removal of the conveying units and elastical thrust means acting on the same plunger in the opposite sense. The connecting rods moreover can be provided with a succession of holes, which can be alternatively chosen to change the distance among their points of pivotment with the rotating arms and the conveying units.
A process and machine for making a corrugated or fibre board two-piece H-divider container in a single cycle of operation comprising erecting and gluing the H-blank upon itself and then erecting and gluing the body blank therearound. The vertical divider panels of the H-piece are folded at the bottom along a hinge line that includes two spaced crush score line areas interrupting a slit score line.
A container assembling machine operable successively to form and insert first container components into second container components at an assembly station to form containers, the machine having as an integral part or as an attachment a second component ready station adjoining the assembly station; a second component grasping arm reciprocally mounted on the machine for movement between the ready station and the assembly station; first component inserting members pivotally mounted on the machine in introducing relation to a second component in the assembly station; a container discharge arm pivotally mounted on the machine for movement through the assembly station; and a synchronous drive mechanism operably interconnecting the machine and the grasping and discharge arms for fully automatic sequential assembly and discharge of containers from the machine. The invention is suitable for embodiment in auxiliary attachments for existing container assembling machines.
