Abstract
A louver having a frame and a set of vanes mounted for pivotal movement about axes of rotation characterized by a rack and pinion operating the vanes, the rack being affixed to a plurality of co-engaging members that snap together to encompass a horizontal vane in the louver to facilitate assembly. In another aspect, the louver is characterized by the vanes having pins, or stub shafts, disposed in notches along at least one side of the frame and a snap-on strip for that side of the frame to hold the vanes in place. Moreover, the vanes overlap so that they can completely block flow of a fluid through the louver. Specific structural features such as the protrusions of the snap-on strip engaging apertures in the frame, are also disclosed.

An air-conditioning blow-out port device includes a housing of synthetic resin; a plurality of blades of synthetic resin each having a blade body disposed within the housing pairs of shaft bores provided in a coaxial arrangement in each pair in opposed portions of a peripheral wall of the housing; a pair of support shafts projectingly provided on opposite ends of the blade body and rotatably fitted in the shaft bores. A pivotal mounting portion is provided on each of the blades, and an interlocking link interlockingly connects the pivotal mounting portions of the blades. The pivotal mounting portion is comprised of a pivotal supporting shaft which is projectingly provided in parallel to the support shaft at an end of each blade body to extend through a pivotal supporting bore in the interlocking link, and a slip-off preventing projection provided at a tip end of the pivotal supporting shaft to engage an edge of the pivotal supporting bore. Thus, the pivotal mounting portion can be provided within an extent of thickness of the blade to provide a reduced spacing between the blades.

A louver assembly including a closure member which is pivotably connected to the lower portion of a louver such that, in its operative position, it blocks the clearance defined between the inner surface of a bottom wall of a casing attached to an air blowoff outlet and underside of the louver, which is rotatably supported within the casing through shafts and, in its inoperative position, closes an opening of the casing.

3735691 - LOUVER ASSEMBLY - Owned by Ford Motor Company (Dearborn, MI)

A louver assembly includes a housing having an opeing therethrough which defines at least one interior surface. A plurality of louver vanes are interconnected to a pair of gang bars by living hinges. The connection between the vanes and one of the gang bars is at a corner on a first edge of each of the vanes. The other gang bar is interconnected with the plurality of vanes at a second edge of the vanes. Mounting structure is provided which is in part associated with the housing and in part associated with the interconnected vanes. The mounting structure mounts the vanes in the opening of the housing for pivotable movement with respect to the housing. At least one of the gang bars is in juxtaposition with the housing's interior surface. Ratchet teeth are formed on at least a portion of the one gang bar and these teeth are in facing relationship with the housing's interior surface. Grooves are provided on the housing's interior surface in juxtaposition with the ratchet teeth. The plurality of vanes are held in a fixed position within the housing's opening by engagement of the ratchet teeth and the grooves. The plurality of vanes may be adjusted to any selected position by moving the ratchet teeth over the grooves.
