This invention relates to apparatus for reshaping both edges of an aluminum strip of 0.2-3.00 mm. in thickness into rounded smooth edges adapted for an electric conductor. The edge of the strip has irregular burrs resulting from slitting of the aluminum strip of commercial width. In operation, the strip is pulled from its coiled supply, through a three-roll assembly, engaged with the groove of the reshaping rolls, through a cleaning chamber, and finally to a recoiler to be coiled again. The reshaping roll is urged by fluid pressure toward the edge so as to treat it with a relatively weak force in order to prevent the roll from damaging the strip.
In an apparatus for manufacturing a taper leaf spring, by which after performing rolling on the edges of a sheet spring material in the direction of its breadth, rolling for tapering the sheet in the direction of its thickness is carried out, an edge roll assembly is employed for the sake of rolling in the breadth direction. In the edge roll assembly, constraining flanges for regulating the sheet thickness are provided on both ends of the main body of the edge roll so that expansion of both sides of a sheet spring material in the sheet thickness direction due to the effect of rolling in the sheet breadth direction is suppressed by the flanges and the thickness of a sheet spring material is kept uniform as a whole prior to performing rolling in the sheet thickness direction.
When roughing a continuously cast slab in a continuous hot rolling stand, the invention breaks down the width of the slab, having passed through a vertical scale breaker, by means of rolls having at least a pair of pressing calibers and thereafter the width of the slab is rolled by means of vertical rolls whereby the width of the slab is rolled more accurately than was possible in the prior art, and accordingly changes of molds of continuous casting machines are no longer required during the continuous casting operation and such an operation is possible over many charges.
This invention relates to a novel method and apparatus for producing cold finished bar flats with improved bright surface condition. The bar flats are produced by a rolled method in a continuous economical process. A strip is fed to a shaving apparatus for removing burrs formed during slitting. Cold finishing rollers perform cold reduction of the strip to a predetermined thickness. Edge conditioning rollers smooth the edges of the strip and size the strip to a predetermined width. Preferably, the edge conditioning rollers alternate with the cold reduction rollers.
