Sliver supplied to a combing machine and/or to an open end spinning machine is clamped closely adjacent to the line of contact between a driven supply roll and a resiliently engaged cooperating loading device, the distance between the contact line and the clamping location preferably being less than the average staple fiber length in the sliver. Such sliver clamp, when actuated, simultaneously separates the loading device from the driven supply roll, and when such clamp is released the supply of sliver to the separator is resumed automatically.
A device is provided for interrupting the feed of a roving to drawing frames on ring spinning machines in response to thread breakage at a respective spinning unit. The device includes a clamping segment annularly clamped about a lower drawing roll and having abuttments for selectively lifting the upper drawing roll away from the lower roll to interrupt the feed of roving in response to movement of the clamping segment to an interrupting position. To control the clamping segment, a locking detent lever is provided which is spring-loaded into a locking position engaging the clamping segment and movable to an unlocking position in response to an electrical drive mechanism which, in turn, is controlled by a thread end break detection device. In particularly preferred embodiments, a capacitor is used to energize the drive means to unlock the lever, the capacitor being charged during normal spinning operation and discharged for a preset time period during the unlocking operation.
A spinning machine for producing a thread includes a multiplicity of spinning stations at which sliver is spun into thread, each of the spinning stations including a thread-break sensor and a slubbing-stopping device connected to the sensor and released by an electrical current from the sensor for arresting the sliver after each thread break sensed by the sensor, each slubbing-stopping device including an electrical energy storage device, a charging circuit for the storage device, and a device for discharging the storage device for operating the slubbing-stopping device.
In an open-end spinning apparatus with an opening roller 2 and a supply device 1, a sliver clamp 5 associated with the supply device 1 is provided to interrupt the sliver feed and can be actuated when the supply roller 10 continues to run by a yarn monitor 31 or a lap monitor 12. In the fiber transport direction, a further, second sliver clamp 6, actuable simultaneously with the first sliver clamp 5 is arranged in front of the supply device 1 at a distance which is as large as the average staple fiber length. Preferably the moving part 62 of the further sliver clamp 6 is rigidly connected to the clamping lever 53 of the first sliver clamp 5.
A device for interrupting feed of a roving on a drawing frame, having a feed roller pair, e.g., a powered bottom roller and a top roller tensioned against the bottom roller by springs, includes a clamp for lifting the top roller away from the bottom roller and clamping the roving against the circumference of the top roller. The clamp is disposed on a lever pivotable about an axis parallel to the axes of the feed roller pair and is shiftable with respect to a clamping edge, in the feed direction of the roving, toward the circumference of the top roller. The clamp includes a tongue which initially engages in the nip between the rollers and a portion having a toothed profile which cooperates with the clamping edge by engaging the roving.
A device for the feeding and opening of a fiber sliver for an open-end spinning device, having a feeder roll, a pressure roll interacting with the feeder roll and an opening roll. The device includes a tray with two guide walls guiding the fiber sliver between the pressure roll and the opening roll and laterally between themselves. The pressure roll is mounted in the feeding tray which has a supporting surface between the feeding roll and the opening roll, to support the fiber sliver and which is delimited by the guide walls. The opening roll is driven in the same direction of rotation as the feeder roll.
