An improvement to a periscope view simulator training device for training riscope operators. Comprises means for simulating the changing view obtained through a periscope when the periscope head is ascending from the darker ocean depths through lighter greenish colored waters near the surface and on to the daylight brightness of an above the surface position. Also simulates the view obtained when the periscope head descends from an above the ocean surface position down through the near-surface waters to the depths.
A liquid crystal display apparatus comprises a first and second housing portions. The first and second housing portions are coupled so that the angle of the opposing surfaces may be adjustable. A light transmitting portion is formed on the upper surface of the first housing portion. The light beam received by the light transmitting portion is further transmitted through a liquid crystal plate and a colored filter housed in the first housing portion and then is led to impinge upon the mirror provided on the second housing portion. An image formed on the liquid crystal plate can be observed as a multicolored image through a light beam reflected from the mirror.
An amusement game which includes a rotating column and viewport for simulating the periscope column at the conning station of a submarine. A video tube is mounted within the column and is operated to form a video display simulating periscope scenes projected along the line of sight of the viewport. An enclosure with transparent walls which confine a liquid is carried within the column and is disposed across the line of sight for creating a simulated water line which is superimposed together with a graticule on the video display. A speaker is carried on the column for simulating the audio environment at the conning station. A deck and railing are mounted about the column, and the railing supports a simulated overhead above the column. A cupola having a peripheral panel of transparent material is mounted on the overhead, and a backlighted drum displaying a panoramic scene is mounted within the cupola for rotation with the column.
