Abstract
A chuck for holding a splined workpiece having two relatively movable members each formed with a set of circumferentially spaced fingers thereon. The members being assembled with the fingers in circumferential interdigital relation. One of the members has two sets of axially spaced teeth thereon and the fingers on the other member have a single set of teeth thereon located axially between the two sets of spaced teeth on the other member. When a splined workpiece is telescoped over the fingers and one of the members is rotated the two sets of teeth on the one member engage one side face of the splines on the workpiece and the single set of teeth on the other member engage the opposite side face of the splines on the workpiece to firmly retain the workpiece on the holder.

4747607 - Lobed chuck for saw regrinding

A chuck for a circular saw includes a frusto-conical plate having a plurality of frusto-conical lobes which snugly engage scallops forming an outer diameter of a mounting aperture in a saw blade adapted to be mounted on a splined arbor. With the saw mounted on the chuck in this manner the concentricity of the outer diameter of the saw and the outer diameter of the mounting aperture is assured as the saw teeth are reground.

4416459 - Collet chuck for splined workpieces

A chuck for splined workpieces includes at least two collets, the resilient fingers of which are circumferentially interdigitally related. The work-engaging surfaces of circumferentially adjacent fingers of the chuck are spaced apart a distance at least slightly greater than the circumferential extent of each radially facing splined surface on the workpiece, the arrangement being such that, when a splined workpiece is telescopically engaged with the collets, fingers of not more than one of the collets register with the radial surfaces of the splines so that the remaining collet fingers will grip the base diameter surface of the workpiece when the collets are actuated.
