Abstract
A device including a first surface adapted to receive the haunches or posterior extremety of a person and a second surface adapted to receive either both or one of the persons feet, to support the person in a leaning type position with his weight distributed so that a sufficient amount thereof is transmitted through said second surface to the surface upon which the support is disposed to minimize relative movement therebetween and thus obviate the need for securing the support in place.

A support stand (10) is adapted to provide support to a standing person. The stand (10) has a planar base (12) upon which the person stands. A tilted and contoured seat cushion (22) supports the posterior of one person so that the pelvis is in an upright position and stress on the back is reduced. The knees are supported by a pad (24) which pivots to remain parallel to the shin bone. The seat cushion (22) is supported on a shaft (16) having telescoping members (26, 27) to adjust the height of the seat cushion (22). The shin pad (24) is supported on a telescoping member (28) extending from a shaft (20) and an angular adjustment (38).

A seat arrangement has a support surface for the buttocks, and a support or bearing surface for the knees and the shins, the two surfaces being connected to one another via a common framework. The framework has a base portion, which extends beyond the downwardly extending projections of the support and bearing surfaces. The base portion is a substantially continuous frame. The seat arrangement also has a base support consisting of two halves, each possessing an interior recess or sleeve for surrounding the respective metal tube of the other half of the base portion for fitting the two halves together.

A dorsal support for supporting a passenger in a generally upright standing position while travelling in a public transportation vehicle is disclosed. The dorsal support comprises a body having a front surface extending uninterrupted upwardly from a base portion fastened to a floor surface, the front surface of the body including a planar lower portion preventing access behind the dorsal support from in front thereof and an upper portion which is integral with the lower portion and extends upwardly therefrom. The upper portion is rearwardly inclined and defines a passenger receiving area thereon for supporting at least a portion of the passenger's back such as to support the passenger in a generally upright standing position when leaning against the dorsal support.
