5523123 - Oil applicator and method for applying a film of oil to a metal strip - Owned by International Rolling Mill Consultants, Inc. (Pittsburgh, PA) Danieli United, Inc. (Pittsburgh, PA)

An oil applicator for applying a film of oil to a strip of metal has a hollow tubular shaft having a porous, oil absorbent sleeve, with oil sprays spraying oil onto the surface of the sleeve and a vacuum drawn through the hollow of the shaft to draw excess oil through apertures in the shaft wall for collection in a housing. A casing is provided that contains the applicator roll and a slot in the wall of the casing communicates with a duct through which a second vacuum is drawn which removes excess oil that may be applied to the strip of metal and collects the same in a second housing.

6196957 - Insulating roll - Owned by Ask Technica Corporation (Yamanashi,JP)

An insulating roll is provided which is constructed with a roll body formed of a plurality of inorganic material-derived discs laminated with each other and positioned axially of and around a metal conduit, and a heat-resistant metal tube disposed integrally over an outer periphery of the roll body. A tubular cover formed by spray coating a ceramic material on the heat-resistant metal tube, or a sleeve made of sintered ceramic material may be disposed, where desired, in place of the heat-resistant metal tube. This roll has low thermal conductivity and high impact strength without involving feduction of the surface temperature of a material being heat treated in a furnace, or reduced ambient temperature in the furnace during heat treatment.

5395447 - Adjustable double-roller oil feeder

An adjustable double-roller oil feeder includes a top frame having oil drain holes with respective flow rate regulating valves, a first roller supported on two opposite bearing blocks by bearings and disposed below a top frame to receive the lubricating oil from the oil drain holes of the top frame, a bottom frame, a second roller supported on springs inside a longitudinal trough to receive the lubricating oil from an oil intake pipe, the second roller comprised of a master oil filling rod, two oil pipes connected between the two opposite ends of the second roller and the two opposite ends of the oil guide hole through the top frame for allowing the oil feeder to be tilted sideways, and curved oil guide tubes optionally fastened to the oil drain holes for guiding the lubricating oil to the first roller as the oil feeder is tilted backwards.

5358567 - Roll stand, as for a coil de-oiler - Owned by Hadady Corporation (Lansing, IL)

A roll stand, such as for supporting a pair of adjacent rolls for maintaining a lubricant film thickness on a sheet of steel, tin, or the like, traveling therethrough, is disclosed. The roll stand comprises a first and second, spaced, support members for supporting the rolls extending therebetween. The support members each include a pair of spaced guide rods. Each of the support members further includes first and second spaced carriers slidably carried by their respective guide rods. Pillow block bearings are disposed on each of the carriers for receiving respective ends of the rolls. A pair of hydraulic piston and cylinder devices move each of the first carriers relative to their respective second carriers, to control the pressure between the rolls. A pair of jacks, manual or motorized, move each of the second carriers to adjust the rolls to the proper height.

3853677 - ROLL MADE OF NON-WOVEN CLOTH - Owned by Toho Yogyo Co., Ltd. (Kyoto-shi,JA)

Fiber yarns such as polyester, nylon, and acrylicare mixed with, cotton or wool and resinous finder, and heat treated to make a non-woven cloth. The non-woven cloth is cut into disc elements which are stacked onto a shaft made of steel, plastics or wood. The laminated non-woven cloth elements are axially pressed together to form a roll having a Poisson's ratio of 0.5 and a shearing stress of 1200 kg/cm.sup.2.
