The upholstery element is adapted to provide a resiliently yielding support and comprises individual rod-shaped resilient inserts spaced apart in the direction of one dimension of the upholstery element and extending in said upholstery element in a longitudinal direction which is transverse to the direction in which they are spaced apart, connecting layers of foam disposed between said inserts and constituting the only connection between said inserts and adapted to take up forces which occur between the inserts, said connecting layers joining said inserts in a common composite body, and covering layers of foam adjoining said connecting layers and covering said inserts in those surface areas which are not covered by the connecting layers.
The invention relates to a mattress assembly comprising an elongated framework, a plurality of parallel laths fastened therein in the direction of width and a mattress consisting at least partly of foam material said mattress assembly being characterized in that the central parts (10) of the laths (8) are located in the mattress and surrounded by foam material and in that the two end parts emerge from the mattress.
A leaf spring includes a plate having a thickness of between approximately 5 mm and 20 mm, a width of between approximately 20 mm and 200 mm, and a given length. The plate is arcuately deformed so that it includes a central portion with a height of between 20 mm and 40 mm. The plate exhibits a predetermined resiliency for maintaining the plate in a substantially horizontal position under a load of between 5 kg and 30 kg and for preventing the plate from breaking under a load of between 50 kg and 100 kg. Further, the plate includes first and second layers made of glass-fiber or carbon-fiber and a core member made of a polyurethane foam material positioned between the first and second layers.
A cushion for engaging the small of the back when the user is in a seated position has a generally planar base portion for engaging a seat back and a generally arc-shaped small of the back engaging portion with dorsal and sacral engaging sections thereon. The back cushion minimizes tension and provides proper curvature for the small of the back section of the spine.
A seat assembly and method of fabricating the seat assembly including a cushion (20) of a resilient foam having a lower face (22), and a frame (24) having a plurality of flexible bands (30) extending in a bowed path between opposite sides of the frame (24) and engaging the lower face (22) of the cushion (20). The cushion (20) is molded over the bands (30) and wrapped around the sides (28) of the frame (24).
A slat box spring/slat bed includes a polygonal frame spanned by a plurality of spaced substantially parallel concavo-convex slats of flexible material atop uppermost convex surfaces of which rests a piece of synthetic latex foam material. A soft cover is upholstered to the entirety of the latter except for an open bottom to impart a coil spring appearance to the slat box spring. The piece of synthetic latex foam material has a plurality of projections or corrugations which project into selected spaces between the plurality of slits to immobilize the latex foam material relative thereto.
