Abstract
An apparatus for forcibly closing a throttle valve in a suction passage of an internal combustion engine, the throttle valve being movable to open and close by an acceleration operation member such as an acceleration pedal or the like. The apparatus for forcibly closing the throttle valve is mounted on one side of the throttle valve, and is operated when the throttle valve is not closed and the acceleration operation member is released from operation. The apparatus for forcibly closing the throttle valve comprises an electromagnetic solenoid with a core which is advanced with rotation when the solenoid is energized, there being a first detecting switch which is closed when the acceleration operation member is released from operation and a second detecting switch which is closed when the throttle valve is in its open position, the two switches being interposed in series in an electrical circuit containing the solenoid and an electric source.

3802406 - FUEL FEED DEVICES FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES - Owned by Societe Industrielle De Brevets Et D'Etudes S.I.B.E.

In the intake pipe, a principal throttle member serves to control the flow-rate of air and is opened, against the action of a first elastic means, by an actuating member which is at the disposal of the operator and linked to the principal throttle member through a mechanical transmission. This transmission is coupled to a movable element subject to the action of the first elastic means and cooperating in such a way, with the principal throttle member, that it drives the latter in the direction of opening by mechanical contact and in the direction of closing by a second elastic means less powerful than the first. The intake pipe comprises, downstream of the principal throttle member, an auxiliary throttle member actuated in such a way, by an electromagnet which is controlled by a switch sensitive to the mutual position of the principal throttle member and of said movable element, that this auxiliary throttle member is completely opened when the principal throttle member follows faithfully, in the direction of closing, the movements of said movable element and occupies a minimal open position when the principal throttle member is retarded, in the latter direction, with respect to the movements of this movable element.

3898973 - Device for controlling the feeding of fuel to an internal combustion engine - Owned by Automobiles Peugeot (Paris,FR) Regie Nationale des Usines Renault (Boulogne-Billancourt,FR)

Comprising a throttle member, in an induction passage of a carburetor body, a control element actuated by the user and connecting means operatively interconnecting the throttle member and the control element. The connecting means comprise a spindle carrying the throttle member and a sleeve coaxial with the spindle and integral with the control element. The spindle and sleeve are relatively rotatable and the sleeve is rotatable in the carburetor body. An electromagnetic coupling normally interconnects the spindle and sleeve but is capable of disconnecting the spindle and sleeve in the event of malfunctioning of the device. Separate springs bias the spindle and the sleeve toward positions normally corresponding to a position of the throttle member substantially closing the induction passage.

4106469 - Automatic motor kill system

The specification discloses a motor kill system for automatically shutting off and killing an internal combustion engine to prevent damage to the engine from obstruction of the air cleaning system. The motor kill system includes a vacuum switch operating in response to a drop in the pressure between the air cleaning system and the intake manifold of the engine caused by obstruction of the air cleaning system. The preferred embodiment of the invention utilizes a normally open vacuum switch that closes to cause a solenoid to operate a butterfly valve to cut off the air supply to kill the engine. An alternate embodiment of the invention utilizes a normally closed vacuum switch which operates in response to obstruction of the air cleaning system to open the circuit between the ignition and the fuel pump to cut off the fuel supply and thereby kill the engine before any damage is done.

4305359 - Device for the transmission of the position of a control element, actuatable by the vehicle driver, controlling the traveling speed of a motor vehicle - Owned by VDO Adolf Schindling AG (Frankfurt am Main,DE)

A device for the transmission of the position of a control element, particularly a gas pedal, (which control element is actuatable by the vehicle driver and controls the traveling speed of a motor vehicle, the gas pedal being connected with an electrical position encoder), to an actuator via electrical transmission means, the actuator being coupled with a regulating member, particularly a throttle valve, which member controls the fuel-air mixture of an internal combustion engine. A pedal contact is coupled with the control element, a regulating member contact is coupled with the regulating member and the pedal contact and the regulating member contact are arranged in a logic circuit arrangement (the logic circuit arrangement being connected with a unit that brings about a rotational speed reduction of the internal combustion engine), such that the rotational speed is reduced with a non-actuated control element, but with a simultaneous position of the member that controls the fuel-air mixture in the gas position.
