An improved high pressure flexible hose and method of making same are provided by providing a flexible plastic tube and applying a layer of an elastomeric adhesive on the outside surface of the tube. An outer cover is braided against the layer of adhesive and the adhesive allowed to set. The properties of the adhesive are such that upon bending the hose the adhesive serves as an elastic connection between the tube and the braided cover to thereby provide improved service life for the hose even under adverse operating conditions.
A hydraulic hose having a single ply of braided wire reinforcement over a rubber core tube. The single ply of reinforcement provides burst strength, impulse resistance and flexibility comparable to that of a conventional hose having two plies of braided wire reinforcement yet utilizes less wire by weight and is smaller in O.D. The single ply of reinforcement comprises braided strands, each strand including a plurality of wires of at least two different diameters symmetrically arranged and providing about 75-95% coverage of the core tube.
A lined hose has a hot melt adhesive bond between the thermoplastic liner and the outer thermoplastic fabric casing. The method of making this lined hose assembly includes the steps of extruding a tubular thermoplastic liner, applying hot melt adhesive to the liner, cooling and flattening the liner with adhesive, inserting the liner with adhesive into a hose casing, and bonding the liner to the thermoplastic casing by applying heat to melt and activate the adhesive and pressure to form the adhesive bond.
A pipe made of fiberglass or the like includes a helical reinforcing member bonded to its outer surface substantially over its length with adjacent convolutions spaced with respect to each other. The reinforcing member or rib includes a filament-wound composite of a series of continuous resin impregnated glass filaments arranged in a bundle and surrounded by a helical fiber having spaced adjacent convolutions. An alternative construction further includes a core of paper or plastic or metal within the bundle to increase the rib height. An auxiliary bundle forming apparatus is employed with a filament winding machine so that the same winding machine and additional lengths of continuous glass fibers drawn from a common storage station may be utilized to form both the fiberglass pipe and the reinforcing rib. A spiral guide may also be used with the auxiliary bundle forming apparatus and the filament winding machine to add an inexpensive elongated core to the bundle forming a reinforcing rib of increased height.
The method of constructing multi-layered hoses of plastic materials in which a coating comprising resorcinol, urethane adhesive and a solvent is applied to the outer surface of an inner tubular member or layer of either polyamide or polyester with the solvent acting as a carrier for the resorcinol and adhesive, removing a major portion of the solvent from the coating, and applying an outer tubular layer of a plastic material such as polyamide, polyester, polyurethane or polyvinyl chloride, but of a different material than the inner layer, over the inner layer in contact with the coating. The resorcinol plastisizes and wets the outer surface of the inner layer and the remaining solvent wets the inner surface of the outer layer whereby molecules of the adhesive interact with molecules of the two layers to share electrons therewith for establishing a strong bond therebetween, the amount of the remaining solvent being sufficient for wetting the outer layer but insufficient for creating gas bubbles between the inner and outer layers.
A hose with multiple through holes is used to convey fluid, has a hose body having two ends, multiple through holes arranged abreast passing through the hose body longitudinally and two enlarged annular flanges. Some of the multiple through holes maintain fluid flow when the hose body is bent or twisted. The two enlarged annular flanges may be attached respectively to standard connectors so the hose can be readily attached to a standard outlet and sprinkling nozzle.
