This disclosure is directed to a fluid envelope, e.g., water bed, frame comprised of an underlying pedestal assembly, an intermediately located platform upon which the fluid envelope rests and an upper rail section containing a plurality of side rails and end rails secured together at their ends by a plurality of common fastening means. The underlying pedestal section is comprised of two or more notched support members having positioned thereon in mating fashion a plurality of pedestal cross members whose notches fit with the notches provided in the pedestal support members.
A waterbed comprises a pedestal which supports decking to which is attached a frame. The frame comprises a back rail, a foot rail, and side rails connected by slotted plates engaging pins which are mounted in corner posts. The frame encompasses a safety liner in which is positioned a water filled mattress. The arrangement of the slotted plates allows the frame to be supported by the decking. In one embodiment, the corner posts do not extend to the floor causing the frame and corner posts to appear to be floating in space.
A joint for attaching members which is easily manufactured, has few parts and is readily connected and disconnected and a bed frame utilizing said joint. The bed frame comprises two pairs of first and second members which are attached to one another by said joint. Each of the first members have on each end a first groove and a first tongue. Each of the second members have on the end thereof a second groove and a second tongue. The second tongue of the end member cooperates with the first groove of the first member to prevent movement of the second member along the longitudinal axis of the first member. The first tongue of the first member cooperates with the second groove of the second member to prevent the second member from moving transversely with respect to the first member. Each of the first and second members are attached in the same manner and may therefore by easily assembled and disassembled.
Side and end boards are assembled to define a rectangular frame for a waterbed. External vertical grooves are formed on the exterior portions of the boards adjacent each of the corners. A metal bracing member comprised of two panels at a right angle to each other with 90.degree. turned in end flanges and a triangular web connecting the top edges of the panels and lying in a plane perpendicular to both panels is positioned above a corner of the frame. The flanges are fitted in the upper ends of the grooves and the bracing member then slid down over the corner so that the panels exteriorally straddle the corner. Each corner of the frame is treated in the same manner to provide an extremely simple assembly operation and resulting strong waterbed frame.
A platform bed having a pedestal portion supporting a platform portion upon which the mattress is positioned; corner connectors are provided for connecting the side and end frame members of the pedestal and platform portions and transversely extending channel assemblies extend between the side frame members of the platform portion for supporting panel members upon which the mattress rests. The corner connectors and channel assemblies facilitate the assembly of the bed without the need for special tools or fasteners such as screws, bolts and the like.
A frame for a waterbed having a standard thickness or height when inflated. The frame includes a stand positioned on the ground and a rectangular planar support member which is secured to the top of the stand so that the upper surface of the support member is substantially horizontal. A planar adapter having both a rectangular outer periphery and a rectangular inner periphery is secured to the top of the support member so that the outer periphery of the adapter is flush with the outer periphery of the support member. A sheet of insulation is contained within the inner periphery of the adapter and the thickness of the sheet is the same as the thickness or height of the adapter so that the top surface of the adapter and insulation sheet are on the same plane with each other. A standard rail assembly is secured to the top of the adapter so that the rail assembly protrudes upwardly from around the outer periphery of the adapter by an amount equal to the standard thickness of the waterbed balloon.
