Abstract
Vacuum packaging machine for food products, having conveyer means conveying a tape of moldable plastics to a vacuum forming station where depressions are vacuum formed in said tape for receiving the food products in such depressions. After a filling station where the food products are introduced into the depressions there is provided an evacuation closing and welding station, where filled depressions are covered by a tape of plastics material with the interposition of a suction mouth between the covering tape and one of the edges of the depressions, which evacuates the filled depressions while a welder welds the covering tape along the edges of the depression. A cutting assembly separates afterwords the closed and evacuated depressions.

4472924 - Apparatus for gas-treatment and closure of packaging containers - Owned by Robert Bosch GmbH (Stuttgart,DE)

An apparatus for shaping, filling and closing packaging containers is proposed. In order to create an inert gas atmosphere in the head room of packaging containers which are to be closed with a foil strip and in order to distribute portions of a product in the containers, the apparatus has a gas-treatment device having a chamber which narrows toward the closure device. This chamber is defined at the top by the foil strip moving toward it, which is supported by a slide track, and at the bottom by the containers. Protruding into this chamber in the direction in which the containers are conveyed and overlapping the lateral rims of the containers are gas supply lines, which have gas outlet openings directed transversely with respect to their longitudinal axis. The outlet openings are disposed in staggered fashion on sides of the gas supply lines which face one another.

6526724 - Apparatus for packaging multiple packaging material - Owned by Daisey Machinery Co., Ltd. (Tsurugashima,JP)

Packaging method and apparatus using multiple packaging material are improved so that multiple packaging filled with goods and sealed may be separated easily to each goods filling section. The multiple packaging material (40, 50) has plural goods filling sections connected in series via adjacent side edge portion (42, 52, 53) between each of the goods filling sections. Goods to be packaged are filled in the multiple packaging material at goods filling portion (12). Multiple packaging so filled with the goods is covered and sealed with sheet coming from master roll (16). The multiple packaging is made separable at the adjacent side edge portion. Overlapped portion of outer peripheral edge portion (41, 51) of the multiple packaging material and the sheet is first sealed at sealing portion (14) and then the adjacent side edge portion is sealed with the sheet at longitudinal sealing portion (21). The sheet on the adjacent side edge portion is cut and the adjacent side edge portion is scratched both at scratching portion (22) so that scratched portion (43, 54, 55) is formed on upper and lower surfaces of the adjacent side edge portion.

5311726 - Air extraction apparatus for continuous package making

The present invention relates to an improved air extraction apparatus for continuous package making. More particularly, the present invention relates to an improved air extraction apparatus that continuously packages a continuous succession of objects in a continuous length of heat-sealable packaging film. The apparatus extracts air from the packaging film that has been folded in a manner so that margins along opposite longitudinal edges of the film form a seam with two overlapping flaps for heat sealing, wherein just ahead of a heat sealing station, the improved apparatus of the invention extracts air from between the film flaps.

4685274 - Packaging foodstuffs - Owned by Garwood Ltd. (Victoria,AU)

Packaging for foodstuffs, particularly meat, comprises a rigid tray (3) of plastic material, preferably polypropylene, enclosed between two opposing, preferably transparent, plastic webs (2, 4), one of which (4) has a depression formed therein in which the tray nests. The tray has corrugations (5) which give it its rigidity, with those on the base (7) also serving to support and space the contents above the base. The package is air evacuated and filled with a desired gas to prevent deterioration of the contents. The method of packaging essentially entails placing the tray, with contents, in the depression, overlying the upper web, evacuating and gasifying the partially completed package and sealing the webs together. Apparatus for performing the method is also disclosed.

4624099 - Packaging apparatus for making gas-filled packages from plastic film - Owned by Mahaffy & Harder Engineering Co. (Fairfield, NJ)

A packaging machine wherein product-loaded cup-shaped receptacles are advanced with an indexing movement through a series of packaging stations. One station includes a fixed vacuum/gas chamber extending entirely over one set of receptacles. The receptacles are first evacuated through this fixed chamber, and thereafter gas is directed into the chamber to fill the receptacles. A fine wire-mesh screen is positioned between the chamber and the receptacles to constrain the air and gas flow to a vertical direction, to prevent disarrangement of the product during evacuation and gassing. A gas-curtain structure develops an enclosed region of gas above the receptacles during their movement out from under the fixed chamber over to the final sealing station. The sealing operation takes place in two successive steps within the sealing station.
