Abstract
Flat carton blanks having front and rear pairs of side panels, each panel having an associated top and bottom flap, are stored on edge in a magazine. The endmost blank is fed from the magazine in its own plane to a folding station, thence to an erection station, and finally through a gluing station to a compression station. The folding station has upper and lower pivoted plows for folding the top and bottom flaps respectively to the same side of the plane defined by the flat carton blank. Certain of these flaps are subsequently folded back through this plane so that the flaps project from the carton in both directions. One of the bottom flaps is left folded to its "wrong" side and this particular flap is used to erect the carton at the erection station.

4041850 - Method of erecting carton blanks - Owned by ABC Packaging Machine Corporation (Tarpon Springs, FL)

A machine is disclosed for erecting cases stored in upright, flattened positions in storage magazines. The machine includes means for extracting end member cases from the magazines, for dropping the extracted cases into drop chutes, for urging the cases in a generally horizontal direction out of the drop chutes, for opening the flattened cases by spreading the case sides apart, for tucking in lower case end flaps, for folding one case bottom panel in under the tucked end flaps, for applying adhesive to the bottom surface of the folded bottom panel, for folding another bottom panel in under the bottom panel having adhesive thereon, and for compressing the two bottom panels together.

4578054 - Carton erection and sealing apparatus

Apparatus for opening flattened cartons having a pair of minor flaps and a pair of major flaps. A constant speed conveyor carries a horizontally disposed flattened carton across an actuator having a cam surface. The cam surface moves upward to fold one pair of major and minor flaps upward and then downward to fold the other pair of major and minor flaps downward. A clamp grasps the upward folded major flap and draws it upward as the conveyor moves the carton forward causing the carton to open. The clamp releases the major flap and the carton moves past a glue gun which applies glue to the minor flaps. A pair of curl bars folds the major flaps against the glue coated minor flaps. An extending platen presses the flaps against a roller bank permitting the glue to set. The platen retracts and the opened and bottom-sealed carton is completed.

4027579 - Method and apparatus for opening folded box blanks - Owned by Mira-Pak, Inc. (Houston, TX)

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for opening folded box blanks so that the opened blank can be filled. Apparatus of one embodiment of the invention comprises a substantially cylindrical cam having an axially and radially progressing spiral cam surface and a plurality of elongated transport screws for supplying, one at a time, folded box blanks to one end of the cam. The blank is opened upon rotation of the cam.

3952636 - Case erector - Owned by ABC Packaging Machine Corporation (Tarpon Springs, FL)

4854929 - Adhesive-applying machine

An adhesive-applying machine is adapted to apply pressure-sensitive adhesive to cardboard blanks which thereafter can be folded and compressed to form a complete box. The machine includes a flat support table above which a pair of spaced, parallel conveyor belts are disposed. Preslotted, prescored cardboard blanks having laterally extending flaps are provided. The flaps are passed beneath the conveyor belts while the remaining portion of the blank passes between the conveyor belts. An adhesive-applying mechanism applies adhesive to the underside of the flaps as the blank is discharged from the table.
