A bed having a box spring including a base frame with transverse slats, and an interengaged spring support frame including a central hub and non-parallel support runners extending from the hub in supporting engagement with the transverse slats of the base frame. Downwardly directed legs are secured to the runners intermediate their ends to support the bed upon the floor. In one form of the invention, vertical side panels connected to the box spring base frame overlie side surfaces of the box spring.
In accordance with the invention there is provided a bed frame which is adjustable in width to king size and which at any width has great strength to the end that it has utility not only for beds with conventional bedding but also for water beds. The bed frame has longitudinal side rails and a longitudinal center rail, transverse end rails and a transverse center rail, the end rails and transverse center rail all being of adjustable length so as to enable adjustment of the bed to different widths and all being substantially coplanar with the longitudinal side rails and center rail, the bed having nine support legs one of which is directly underneath the connection between the transverse and longitudinal center rails and the other eight of which are adjacent the other connections between the transverse and longitudinal rails.
A bedding product comprising a conventional box spring and a pair of support members secured to the inside of the frame of the box spring. Each of the support members comprises an angle element and a pair of brackets from which supporting, adjustable feet depend. The adjustable feet are fixed in position using wing nuts. By loosening the wing nuts and rotating the adjustable feet, the height of the box spring may be adjusted.
A height-adjustable mattress assembly is constructed of a mattress foundation and an optional frame assembly with a plurality of ground support members supporting the mattress foundation. The ground support members can be attached to the frame assembly in at least two orientations so as to maintain the top surface of the foundation above ground in a substantially horizontal orientation at at least two different heights. The mattress foundation can be made of two mattress foundation members that are spaced apart by spacer members. The mattress foundation members can be oriented with respect to each other so as to provide a combined height that is adjustable. By combining the adjustable ground support members with the assembly having two mattress foundation members, adjustment at three or more different heights is possible.
A mattress assembly supporting a mattress and occupants is constructed substantially of plastic material. A mattress foundation defined by a semi-rigid cavity includes a generally flat top surface and at least one sidewall depending from the top surface. For pliability and structural weight reduction, the foundation may be ribbed, with air spaces formed therein. Ground support members may be used to retain the foundation in a substantially horizontal orientation above ground. To reinforce the foundation's structural integrity, support braces connecting opposing sidewall portions may be used. The braces may be detachable or integrally formed with the foundation. The assembly may include a headboard. To ease transport, casters may be included with the foundation. The assembly may be constructed of extruded or assembled plastic pieces; molded plastic; recyclable plastic; plastic reinforced with metal core, metal fiber, glass fiber, carbon fiber, resin or a combination of these.
