Abstract
An ear plug wherein an elongated slug of nonslumping silicone putty is enclosed in a thin cocoon of synthetic organic polmeric film drawn over the tip end of the ear plug and gathered at the base end of the ear plug. The gathering of the film forms longitudinally extending folds or grooves on the exterior of the ear plug. The gather at the base end of the ear plug is tied, and the excess polmeric film is fused down to form an integral knob adjacent to or fused with the tie off member by which the ear plug is grasped for insertion and removal.

4160449 - Earplug

An earplug comprises a generally cylindrical plug of compressible resilient elastomeric foam having a diameter in relaxed condition slightly larger than the outer canal of a human ear and an envelope of thin plastic material which encases the plug and has a portion extending lengthwise beyond the end of the plug. The envelope is twistable to compress and thereby reduce the size of the plug to facilitate insertion of the plug into the outer ear canal. The envelope also provides a convenient means of extracting the plug. The envelope may be open to the atmosphere--while retaining the plug--so that air can be squeezed out of the plug and envelope or it may be sealed and evacuated so as to provide lower than atmospheric pressure inside the envelope.

4338929 - Ear-plug - Owned by Gullfiber AB (Billesholm,SE) [*] Notice:The portion of the term of this patent subsequent to August 5, 1997 has been disclaimed.

An ear-plug comprising a plug-like body of fine glass wool and a surrounding casing of thin polyethylene film having low friction vis-a-vis the auditory canal. The glass wool is exposed at the surface of the expanded end of the ear-plug not to be inserted into the auditory canal. The ear-plug is fixed as to shape by means of a circumferential heat weld in the polyethylene film located where the expanded part of the ear-plug begins.

3881570 - Self-fitting hearing protector - Owned by Marion Health and Safety, Inc. (Rockford, IL)

A self-fitting earplug has a generally elongated, ovoid- or bullet-shaped mass of deformable putty-like polymer enclosed in an elastomeric or resilient envelope which urges the polymeric mass toward its original shape when deformed or elongated and inserted in the ear canal whereby the earplug conforms to the ear canal walls providing a close fit in the canal for attenuation of sound and sealing of the ear opening.

4552137 - Earplugs

An earplug in the form of a preformed self-supporting body of malleable plastic material which is deformable under slight pressure, the body having a front face and a rear face, the front face having a generally convex surface adapted to conform to and cover the opening of the ear canal and the body having a size such that it is adapted to reside within the external ear when the generally convex surface is positioned over the opening of the ear canal, and a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive so located on the convex surface as to releasably adhere the surface to the periphery of the ear canal opening.
