A nesting place for the purple martin made of a synthetic resin material and comprising a hollow housing having an upper portion and a lower portion removably affixed to said upper portion. An egress and ingress opening is divided between both portions. There are means for removably affixing the lower portion to the upper portion.
A birdhouse entrance is provided with an entrance opening having two posts projecting vertically from the bottom edge of the opening toward the top edge. The two posts are spaced apart such that a bird of selected size cannot pass between them without opening its wings. Sufficient clearance for the wings is provided between the outer edges of the posts and the side edges of the entrance opening.
The purple martin birdhouse assembly of the present invention includes a plurality of gourds suspended from an array of tubular members. The array is connected by tubular radial arms, from which gourds may also, optionally, be suspended to a central sleeve which is slidably mounted on a pole. The entire array attached to the sleeve may be raised and lowered by a winch and associated pulleys. Undesired rotation of the sleeve, according to a preferred embodiment, is prevented by means of solid, tubular members mounted on the pole which allow for upward movement of the central sleeve but which project downwardly into position adjacent to the radial arms to prevent both clockwise and counterclockwise rotation.
A cremation container convertible into a birdhouse includes an inner chamber for at least temporarily storing cremation ashes therein, an end face having a first opening in communication with the inner chamber, a peripheral side surface extending from the end face and having a second opening in communication with the inner chamber and a plug fitted in the second opening, which is removable upon conversion of the cremation container into a birdhouse. The first opening is sized for insertion and removal of the cremation ashes in the inner chamber and the second opening is sized to permit entry of a bird into the inner chamber. The container further includes mounting structure for mounting a birdhouse roof to the container.
