Abstract
A fill assembly for a cooling tower comprising a plurality of fill strips positioned within the fill area, a plurality of spaced apart vertically suspended fill hangers positioned transversely with respect to said fill strips within said fill area, said fill hangers having a plurality of substantially horizontally and generally vertically extending members which intersect one another to form a plurality of parallelogram grids, each of said fill strips being supported by a horizontal portion of one of said parallelogram grids of at least two of said fill hangers, and each of said parallelogram grids including means associated with said vertically extending members to retain said fill strips in a predetermined position relative to said horizontal portion. Also provided are unique snap-lock joints to attach adjacent fill hanger sections and horizontal and transverse stabilizers to increase the stability of the fill assembly.

4117049 - Flexible multi-columnar fluid treatment cellular apparatus

For fluid interchange treatment, a flexible collapsible structure is provided which consists of stacked horizontal partition walls formed from pairs of sheets of non-woven fabric material such as felt heat-joined by plastic coatings on their inner surfaces and disposed in vertically-spaced parallel arrangement and sealed at their sides by accordion-folded sheets of flexible collapsible material. The paired sheets contain ports which are offset relatively to one another in successive sheets. The paired fabric sheets and their plastic-coated inner surfaces are provided with openings to form cells with which the ports communicate, these openings being so arranged that, a multi-columned collapsible structure of parallel cellular formation results, with independent zigzag paths between top and the bottom of each cellular column. Thus, heat transfer is greatly enhanced by the retarded flow of the hot water horizontally across the liquid-absorbing fibrous surfaces of the felt on the exposed outer sides of the partition walls. The structure is preferably suspended from an external framework, the suspension causing the laminated partition walls to separate into parallel columns of laterally-interfitting vertically staggered cells.

5112537 - Perforated arch-shaped fill bar for splash type water cooling tower - Owned by The Marley Cooling Tower Company (Mission, KS)

Improved synthetic resin splash-type fill bar (32) for water cooling tower fill assemblies (26, 28) are provided which give enhanced cooling results over virtually the entire range of duty conditions encountered in commerical practice. The bars (32) are preferably integrally formed of PVC and present a dome-like cross-sectional configuration, with an imperforate, fore and aft extending upper apex section (36) and downwardly and outwardly diverging, apertured sidewalls (38, 40) terminating in bifurcated feet (42, 44). The sidewall apertures (50) are nominally circular and are arranged in staggered rows to maximize dispersal of descending hot water in a tower fill. The bars (32) are advantageously used in crossflow cooling tower (10), and are preferably oriented transverse to incoming cooling air currents entering the fill assemblies (26, 28) of the tower (10).

4269795 - Packing in wet cooling towers and method of and means for supporting the packing - Owned by WLPU Holdings Limited (Johannesburg,ZA)

The invention provides for a method of and means for supporting the packing in an evaporative cooling tower in which the packing includes packing elements, each of which is suspended at its central region by means of a wire hanger. The packing element includes spaced splash ribs and the elements are vertically arranged offset from each other so that in plan view the packing presents an uninterrupted surface.

4181692 - Cooling tower fill assembly - Owned by Ecodyne Corporation (Lincolnshire, IL)

Cooling tower splash fill batts are supported by a plurality of vertically and horizontally aligned grids made from vertical and horizontal wire strands. The grids occupying the same vertical plane are connected to each other by elongated generally C-shaped fill hanger splice beams.

4181693 - Cooling tower fill assembly - Owned by Ecodyne Corporation (Lincolnshire, IL)

Cooling tower splash fill batts are supported by grids made from vertical and horizontal wire strands. The grids are suspended from fill hanger beams that are adjustably connected to beams in the cooling tower subject to deflection or bowing. Splash deck members are also supported by the fill hanger beams.
