Abstract
A fill assembly for a cooling tower comprising a plurality of fill strips positioned within the fill area, a plurality of spaced apart vertically suspended fill hangers positioned transversely with respect to said fill strips within said fill area, said fill hangers having a plurality of substantially horizontally and generally vertically extending members which intersect one another to form a plurality of parallelogram grids, each of said fill strips being supported by a horizontal portion of one of said parallelogram grids of at least two of said fill hangers, and each of said parallelogram grids including means associated with said vertically extending members to retain said fill strips in a predetermined position relative to said horizontal portion. Also provided are unique snap-lock joints to attach adjacent fill hanger sections and horizontal and transverse stabilizers to increase the stability of the fill assembly.

5279774 - Contact filling for cooling towers

The present invention refers to improvements in contact filling for cooling towers, of the type comprising prismatic triangular bars (1) made of plastic material and arranged in multiple parallel horizontal layers, one lateral plan face thereof being turned upwards, the improvements comprising a support structure having the shape of a vertical grill (2) with lozenge-shaped meshes, said support structure intended to provide stable support to said bars (1) which are stably seated by their peaks and flanks, each of said bars (1) further including an inner longitudinal edge extending in one or in a pair of longitudinal rectilinear rules (3), whose completely free edge is cut in transversal teeth (4) having negative hollow intended to obtain attachment over the grill seats (2), as well as to impede formation of liquid grooves or beads along the rules (3).

5104588 - Perforated trapezoidal-shaped fill bar for splash type water cooling towers - Owned by The Marley Cooling Tower Company (Mission, KS)

An improved splash-type fill bar (32) for water cooling towers (10) is provided which gives enhanced water cooling as compared with conventional bars. The bars (32) are of trapezoidal configuration and present a flat, apertured top wall (36), a pair of obliquely oriented, downwardly and outwardly extending apertured sidewalls (42, 44) and short, horizontal, imperforate flange walls (50, 52) extending from the lower margins (46, 48) of the sidewalls (42, 44). The width of top wall (36) is at least four times the vertical height of a sidewall (42, 44) so as to present an effective water dispersal surface; the oblique sidewalls (42, 44) and flange walls (50, 52) prevent formation of gravitating sheets or films of water which can inhibit tower performance.

4512937 - Grid and fill slats for cooling towers - Owned by Lilie-Hoffman Cooling Towers, Inc. (St. Louis, MO)

A cooling tower has hollow fill slats formed in a rectangular cross-sectional configuration from a suitable polymer. These slats are supported on polymer grids, each comprised of an upper section and a lower section which forms a downward extension of the upper section. The two sections for each grid have horizontal and vertical stringers which are arranged in rows and delineate rectangular grid openings through which the slats extend. The two sections overlap, and in the region of overlap the upper section on its horizontal stringers has knuckle-type connectors that interlock with horizontal stringers of the lower section such that the grid openings for the two grid sections are generally in registration in the region of overlap. The upper section also has alignment lips on some of the vertical stringers in the region of overlap, and these lips maintain the lower section properly aligned with the upper section.

4181692 - Cooling tower fill assembly - Owned by Ecodyne Corporation (Lincolnshire, IL)

Cooling tower splash fill batts are supported by a plurality of vertically and horizontally aligned grids made from vertical and horizontal wire strands. The grids occupying the same vertical plane are connected to each other by elongated generally C-shaped fill hanger splice beams.

4178333 - Hanger assembly for fill strips

A hanger assembly to support fill strips in a cooling tower wherein the assembly includes headers and wire mesh hangers mounted on the headers. Each wire mesh hanger assembly includes vertical wires which have clamp portions formed at each end which extend through openings formed in the headers to suspend the wire mesh hanger from the header. The clamp portions include a cam surface which is compressed in the header opening when the clamp is moved to its operative position.
