Abstract
A hand-setting mechanism for a watch having a winding stem axially displaceable freely to a hand-setting position. The winding stem is used for winding the watch in its normal winding position and is displaceable axially by a crown thereon for coupling a transmission gear driven by the winding stem to a hand-setting gear of a hand-setting gear train for setting the hands of a watch. Semi-automatic means in the form of a spring biasing one of the two gears to be coupled by axial movement under control of the spring is enabled when the winding stem is displaced to its hand-setting position and disenabled when it is returned to its normal winding position.

4362395 - Device for winding and setting a timepiece - Owned by Corum, Ries, Bannwart & Co. (CH)

A winding and setting arrangement for a timepiece comprises a two-part stem extending through the hollow shaft of the spring drum. The outer part of the stem is affixed at its outer end to a crown and at its inner end has Breguet teeth which, in an inner position of the stem, are engageable with Breguet teeth of a connecting member which is non-rotatable but axially movable in a cavity in the hollow spring drum shaft. A spring urges the connecting member outwardly against a shoulder in the shaft. The inner part of the stem is coupled with the outer part by a square section so that the two parts rotate together but are axially movable relative to one another. The inner stem part passes freely through the connecting member and, inwardly of the spring drum, carries a pinion which is engageable with a setting wheel in an outer position of the stem. A spring urges the inner stem part outwardly.

7563020 - Control stem device for a watch - Owned by Montres Breguet SA (L'Abbaye,CH)

The control stem device for a watch includes a first stem (1) rotating about its longitudinal axis and provided with means (32) for securing it to a manual control crown on the exterior of the watch, and a second stem (2), substantially parallel and shifted in relation to said first stem and secured to an axially mobile sliding pinion (8) for selectively driving in rotation a mechanism for a first function (20) and a mechanism for a second function (242), the first and second stems being connected in rotation by a transmission device (5). The first stem is mounted to be axially mobile at least between an operating position associated with said first function and an operating position associated with said second function, so as to activate, by sliding between said positions, a pull-out mechanism (6) which cooperates with said sliding pinion (8) to make said pinion pass from one axial position to another, said sliding pinion (8) being meshed with the mechanism for the first function in one of its positions and with the mechanism for the second function in the other position. The first stem (1) slides in the first pinion (35) of the gear and can be removed. This device allows the control crown to be placed half way up the watchcase, in particular in the case of a watch with complications having a very thick movement.
