Abstract
A barrel is fixed in a barrel-carrying member and provided on its outside peripheral surface with a piston and formed with transverse bore means, which communicate with the inside of the barrel and open on the outside peripheral surface thereof forwardly of said piston. An action slide comprises a cylinder, which is spaced around said barrel and defines therewith an annular chamber, which is sealed by said piston and is defined by flow-obstructing means spaced from said piston beyond said transverse bore means. The action slide is capable of a recoil movement relative to said barrel so as to decrease the size of said annular chamber. A counter-recoil spring cooperates with said action slide and tends to move said action slide opposite to the direction of said recoil movement.

A barrel is fixedly inserted in and protrudes from a grip and comprises a barrel chamber. A piston is provided on the outside of said barrel and rigid therewith. A breechblock comprises a cylinder surrounding said barrel and piston before said grip and defining with said barrel an annular chamber, which is sealed against said barrel. Said breechblock is movable along said barrel to and from a forward position. A counterrecoil spring urges said breechblock to said forward position. A piston is disposed in said annular chamber and rigid with said barrel and arranged to be disposed at the rear end of said annular chamber when said breechblock is in said forward position. Transverse bore means are formed in said barrel and communicate with the interior of said barrel adjacent to said barrel chamber. Longitudinal passage means are provided, which are laterally enclosed and connect said transverse bore means to said annular chamber.

5076139 - Buffer for firearms

A conventional Beretta-type pistol is shown, having a recoil spring (26) compressed between the front of the slide (14) and a seat (28) at the rear of the guideway (13) in which the slide is displaceable. A buffer (32) is dimensioned to span across adjacent convolutions of the recoil spring (26) for slidable adjustment along the spring and has an outline complementary to the interior (18) of the slide (14) so that it may self-adjust. The buffer (32) cushions the impact of the slide abutment (22) against the frame buttress (24) and the barrel lug (16).
