A method is disclosed for reproducing in graphic form a marker defining the positional relationship of pattern pieces to be cut from sheet material in an automatically controlled cutting machine. The method employs the cutting table of the same automatic cutting machine that is used to cut the pattern pieces of the marker from layups of sheet material. The method is comprised of spreading a plotting material over the support surface of the cutting table on which the sheet material to be cut is normally placed. A writing instrument is attached to the moveable cutting carriage that supports a cutting knife over the table during the cutting operation. A marker program derived from the same basic data as the cutting program, or the cutting program itself is generated and used to drive the moveable carriage with the attached writing instrument in writing engagement with the plotting material spread on the support surface of the table. A plot of the marker pattern to be cut by the machine is thereby achieved.
A system is disclosed for creating custom garments of clothing for a wearer by combining data on personal tailoring measurements of the wearer, physical characteristics of the wearer, a garment pattern, and garment options selected on the basis of the resulting combination of personal and pattern data. As disclosed, the system is embodied with a central location unit including a cutting table apparatus, a memory for a substantial number of patterns, and a pattern-processing system. The central unit serves a plurality of remote location equipments through a communication system which may incorporate a telephonic link. The remote equipments include an interactive graphic display terminal which cooperates with a remote location computer for the effective combination of physical data, personal selection data, and pattern data. As disclosed, an operator customizing a garment (typically the intended wearer) selects a garment pattern from storage at the central location unit with the result that display data on the pattern is recorded in the location equipment. Personal physical data is also supplied to the location equipment and the two forms of data are combined to provide data representative of the combination. The resulting combination, with certain designer limitations, is then formulated for an interactive graphic display forming the basis for optional variations, some of which may be selected by the operator. In the final analysis, the combined data (pattern, physical measurements, and individual selections) are manipulated by the system to provide: (1) data for a current graphic display, and (2) specific pattern data. Upon confirmation, the specific pattern data is processed to control a central-location cutting table apparatus to provide the components which are sewn together to accomplish the designed garment.
Image analysis techniques permit the measurement of a wide variety of parameters of the image being analyzed. This invention is specifically concerned with the measurement of parameters related to the amplitude of the video signal. Measurement related parameters include density, absorbance, transmittance, and reflectance of a particular sample. Techniques employed analyze the amplitude of a video signal over a predefined area and process this on a point-by-point basis to produce the desired measurement with exceptional accuracy.
A sphere which may be rotationally displaced by manual action, protruding from a control panel, is mechanically connected for resolving its rotary motion into motions about two axes perpendicular to each other, for control of the direction and speed operation of a video recorder and playback equipment. When any of several particular rotary displacements of the sphere have taken place, a controllable brake system bears on the mechanical coupling between the sphere and at least one of in the electronic transducers to exert a brake torque to simulate an index position. One such position is a neutral setting or "rest position". The y axis is used for gradual speed change and the x axis is used for stepwise speed change. The axis for gradual speed change has an initial threshold on each side of the rest position to determine direction. On the other axis, the speed steps may be separate for each direction, respectively on opposite sides of the rest position.
A method and apparatus is provided for effecting semi-closed loop positioning of a work piece, such as corrugated-board, which corrects for inherent tolerance errors in the apparatus. A controller operates a processing device, for example a slotter, a positioning device and a position measuring device. The processing device and the work piece are positioned relative each other to align the processing device with a target position on the work piece defined by a target position value. The measuring device is then used to determine the initial actual position value of the processing device relative to the work piece. A processing size is determined and tested to find whether the size is within a given tolerance. If the size is outside the tolerance, fine adjustments are made to reposition the work piece. Once the position of the processing device is within tolerance, the measuring device measures the position of the processing device to determine a corrected actual position value. The difference between the initial actual position value and the corrected actual position value is added to the target value to produce a new target position value for subsequent work piece processing.
A method for automatically producing different sizes of a particular garment from a basic pattern, wherein the basic pattern is sampled and digitized and this information is entered into the memory of a computer. A reference measurement value is determined utilizing characteristic points of the basic pattern. This reference measurement value along with data provided in the computer relating to evolutions in width and in length of the different sizes are used to calculate reference measurement values for each size. This value along with the characteristic points of the basic pattern are used to produce a pattern of differing size from the basic pattern.
