The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition providing a dosage unit of from 1 to 25 mg. of 3-(N,N-dimethylsulfamoyl)-5-(3-dimethylaminopropylidene)-5H-dibenzo[a,d]cy cloheptene or the corresponding 10,11-dihydro compound, and salts thereof useful as a skeletal muscle relaxant. It also relates to a method of treating muscular spasm and other similar muscular disorders associated with or caused by injury or arising spontaneously with no known cause by the administration of a pharmaceutical composition containing 3-(N,N-dimethyl-sulfamoyl)-5-(3-dimethylaminopropylidene)-5H-dibenzo[a,d]- cycloheptene or the corresponding 10,11-dihydro compound, or a salt thereof, as one of the active ingredients.
The invention provides a method for treatment of pain, the method comprising administering to the intrinsic spinal muscles of a mammal an amount of an agent sufficient to paralyze said muscles.
The present invention provides a lubricant additive and lubricant composition comprising the copolymer of 1-vinyladamantane and 1-alkene having from about 4 to about 16 carbon atoms, said copolymer having a Viscosity Index of at least 80 and a kinematic viscosity of at least 6 cS at 212.degree. F. The invention further provides a catalytic method for the preparation of such a copolymer useful as a lubricant stock. In a preferred embodiment of the composition, the 1-alkene is 1-decene. Suitable polymerization catalysts include both acid and coordination catalysts. Useful coordination catalysts include Group VIA metals on an inert support, for example, chromium oxide supported on silica, or Ziegler-Natta catalysts such as TiCl.sub.4 and aluminum alkyl, while useful acid catalysts include BF.sub.3 and AlCl.sub.3, and their appropriate co-catalysts.
This invention provides a method for incorporating a diamondoid compound into a lubricant stock comprising reacting at least one .alpha.-olefin containing at least six carbon atoms with at least one diamondoid compound in the presence of an acid catalyst selected from the group consisting of AlX.sub.3, BX.sub.3, and GaX.sub.3, wherein X is a halogen, together with at least one added proton-donating catalyst promoter. The invention further provides a lubricant composition comprising alkyl-substituted diamondoids wherein the ratio of linear to branched alkyl substituents is at least about 4:1 and wherein the average number of alkyl substitutions per diamondoid molecule is from about 1.5 to about 4.
The invention provides a method for selectively alkylating a diamondoid compound comprising reacting at least one .alpha.-olefin containing at least six carbon atoms with at least one diamondoid compound in the presence of an acid catalyst selected from the group consisting of AlX.sub.3 and BX.sub.3 wherein X is a halogen, in the absence of added proton-donating catalyst promoter. The invention further provides a lubricant composition comprising alkyl-substituted adamantanes wherein the ratio of linear to branched alkyl substituents is at least about 4:1 and wherein the average number of alkyl substitutions per diamondoid molecule is from about 1.5 to about 4.
