The invention relates to an ear protecting device of the kind comprising two shells intended to be placed over the ears to be protected and interconnected by a resilient holder means or yoke to which the shells are secured in a manner permitting adjusting their position to the individual shape of the head of the user. Each shell contains an absorber for standing sound waves and an annular soft sealing pad bearing against the head of the user around the ear. In order to give the pad required rigidity for effective absorption of the standing sound waves combined with sufficient flexibility at the edge zone bearing against the head of the bearer to avoid points of leakage, the annular pad of the invention is provided at at least one of its circumferences with a flange limiting deformation in radial direction. Such flange may be provided at the outer or the inner circumference of the pad or, if desired, at both the inner and the outer circumference. Preferably the flange is formed with an outer portion projecting towards, and producing a recess in, the pad. According to a preferred embodiment the annular pad is composed of a substantially even bottom portion of some relatively stiff material and a covering portion connected to said bottom portion and made of some relatively more flexible material, said bottom and covering portions encasing a yielding, but not easily compressible medium such as a liquid.
An earmuff (10) has a sealing ring (20) with an outer liquid layer (38) and a foamed plastics layer (36) thereinunder. The liquid layer is arranged as a separate, annular, sheath-equipped liquid ring (38) the sheath (40) of which can move freely relative the sheath (30,32) of the sealing ring (20).
A hearing protecting device comprises a shell defining a hollow enclosure, which may be provided with sound absorbing material, with an open mouth, which is, in use, placed over the ear. A resiliently deformable seal of sound absorbing material is provided along the periphery of the open mouth to seal against the shell and the wearer, and is releasably retained in place by releasable retaining means which cooperate with an inner portion of the sealing means and with an inner edge portion of the mouth of the enclosure. The retaining means may comprise an annular member made integral with the sealing means and which extends round the inner edge of the mouth to overlie and engage an inner surface of the shell, or a member separate from the sealing means which retains an inner portion of the sealing means relative to the inner edge of the mouth of the shell.
The casings for two ear-pads are adjustably mounted on opposite ends of an arcuate headband by means of a pair of rivet-like elements, each of which extends through an elongate slot in one end of the headband, and a central opening in the associated ear-pad casing. Each rivet-like element has an enlarged-diameter cylindrical head on its inner end and an enlarged, rectangular head on its outer end which is slidable in a correspondingly shaped recess in the headband to allow adjustment of each casing in the longitudinal direction of its associated slot. A plurality of flexible, washer-like supporting members are pressed over the inner end of each element resiliently to engage opposite sides of a casing around its central opening frictionally to resist movement of each casing relative to the headband.
An earcup suspension for a headphone includes a housing, having a vertically oriented slot and stationarily mounted on the lower end of a headband to be disposed over the top of the headphone user, an earcup mounting includes a vertical member slidably extending through the slot in the housing and having a rack surface configured to coact with a similarly configured inwardly biased detenting rack stationarily disposed in the slot whereby the earcup mounting may be adjusted vertically with respect to the lower ends of the headband.
The present invention relates to a detachable inflight headset for civil aircraft, and in particular to one comprising a pair of earpieces each including a casing provided at the side portion with a recess which comes with two slits provided within the recess and separated by a V-shaped member, a pair of covering plates each embedded on one of the casings, a pair of ear cushions each mounted on one of the covering plates, a headband each end of which is slidably engaged with one of the casings, and a pair of acoustic pipes each connected to one of the casings.
