Abstract
Method and equipment for forming visual display packages from blanks in which a plastic film covers a window region in the package, and in which a tab formed as part of the blank extends into the window region to support an article to be contained in the package and serve as a location for product codes and symbols or other information. At least one pocket is formed in the plastic film to receive an article prior to closing the package. The tab is rotated outward, and when the tab is located adjacent to the transverse axis fold line of the blank it assists in making the completed package free-standing. The tab may be bonded to a portion of the plastic film by a heat responsive thermo-plastic coating on the tab.

4124421 - Method of producing multi-layered and shaped wall covering material of corrugated cardboard - Owned by Nissan Motor Company, Ltd. (JP)

A method of producing a shaped wall covering material composed of a corrugated cardboard substrate, a porous buffer layer adhered onto one side of the substrate and a thermoplastic resin liner coated on the outer surface of the buffer layer. The starting materials are set in a hot-press in an orderly piled arrangement with interposed adhesive materials and subjected to press-shaping between male and female dies with application of heat. During the shaping operation, air is sucked from the gap between the substrate and the shaped surface of one die through holes intentionally formed in this die. The resultant attraction of the piled materials to this die facilitates the shaping and prevents a layer-separation or deformation of the product attributable to a sticking tendency of the liner to the other die. The suction can be enhanced by forming pin-like protuberances on the die surface contacting the substrate to intrude into the buffer layer and squeezing the buffer layer and/or substrate in a marginal region by a periopheral wall-like protuberance formed, for example, on the other die surface.

5522505 - Blister packaging card for use in making plastic blister packages - Owned by Sencorp Systems, Inc. (Hyannis, MA)

Apparatus and method for the packaging of an article in a plastic-card package which includes a flat card having a window aperture cut therein fed to the apparatus, and a flat, thermoformable plastic sheet, cut-to-size larger than the aperture and smaller than the face of the card and positioned to cover the aperture. The perimeter of the sheet is heat tacked by an adhesive to the card at a plurality of points around the perimeter of the aperture, and the thermoformable material is heated to form a blister in the sheet and to heat seal the edges of the formed blister to the card. The blister is filled, and the filled blister is covered with a backing cover sheet, and the card sealed to form a package.

4326241 - Multilamp photoflash unit - Owned by GTE Products Corporation (Stamford, CT)

A photoflash unit comprising a horizontal linear array of flashlamps enclosed within a one-piece housing member having a light-transmitting front portion folded over a back portion containing a plurality of lamp-receiving cavities in which respective lamps are disposed. The housing is a formed sheet of plastic film having a linear fold disposed horizontally along the top of the array of cavities, which are selectively aluminized to provide a reflective coating on the cavity surfaces. A pair of lead-in wires from each of the lamps are connected to conductive circuit patterns on one side of a printed circuit board sandwiched between a set of tabs which run along the bottom of the front and back portions of the housing and are secured together. The sides of the housing are also secured so that the lamps, lead-in wires and connections are disposed within a secured enclosure, with a plurality of conductive connector terminals being disposed on a tab which projects from the printed circuit board and extends exteriorly of the secured enclosure.

4326240 - Multilamp photoflash unit having engageable connector tab - Owned by GTE Products Corporation (Stamford, CT)

A photoflash unit comprising a horizontal linear array of flashlamps enclosed within a one-piece housing member having a light-transmitting front portion folded over a back portion containing a plurality of lamp-receiving cavities in which respective lamps are disposed. A printed circuit board is joined to the housing member, and a pair of lead-in wires from each of the lamps are connected to conductive circuit patterns disposed solely on one side of the circuit board. The circuit patterns include a plurality of connector terminals which are located adjacent one another on a flat tab which projects from one edge of the circuit board for insertion into the receiving socket of a firing pulse source. The tab contains a plurality of symmetrically disposed apertures or recesses which render the tab releasably engageable by socket means independent of firing pulse contacts for securely retaining the unit in the socket.

4326242 - Multilamp photoflash unit having secured housing - Owned by GTE Products Corporation (Stamford, CT)

A photoflash unit comprising a horizontal linear array of photoflash lamp enclosed within a one-piece housing member having a light-transmitting front portion folded-over a back portion containing a plurality of lamp-receiving cavities in which respective lamps are disposed. The housing is a formed sheet of plastic film having a linear fold disposed horizontally along the top of the array of cavities. A pair of lead-in wires from each of the lamps are connected to conductive circuit patterns on one side of a printed circuit board sandwiched between a set of tabs which run along the bottom of the front and back portions of the housing. The housing tabs are secured together and to the circuit board by a plurality of staples symmetrically disposed along the tabs. Each of the staples has a pair of legs extending through both the housing tabs and the circuit board, with the center region of each staple bearing against an external surface of one of the tabs and the staple legs being clinched onto an external surface of the other of the tabs.
