A bed for preventing bed sores and enabling a patient to be turned, in which net material is secured to two spaced apart substantially parallel bars. In one construction at least one bar can be raised and lowered to cause movement of the net material under the patient thereby causing a rolling motion. In another construction the bars are rotatable about their axis to wind the net material onto or off the bars so that when they are rotated in opposite directions the patient is either raised or lowered and when they are rotated in the same direction the patient is caused to roll or turn.
A hospital bed comprising a frame and a patient support surface constituted by an endless length of flexible material extending around a pair of rollers at the opposite sides of the bed, means being provided for traversing the material around said rollers. The flexible material will preferably be an open mesh material to assist in the healing and prevention of pressure sores.
A net-type bed comprises a flexible web slung between two parallel shafts on to which the ends of the web are wound. The shafts can be turned individually by means of handles and the bed has a self-contained support frame which is of collapsible tubular construction. The frame comprises two parallel longitudinal members spaced apart so as to lie on opposite sides of a normal bed mattress, and two cross members adapted to rest on the mattress support or base of the normal bed below the mattress. End sections of the frame are detachable from the longitudinal members and embody support crutches in which the shafts are rotatably supported.
An apparatus useful for lifting a human being from a surface comprising a stretcher adapted to be placed between the human being and the surface; a first motive system associated with a first side end of the stretcher and capable of lifting or lowering this first side end, as desired; and a second motive system removably associated with a second side end of the stretcher and being capable of lifting or lowering this second side end, as desired, provided that the first and second motive systems are capable of independent operation.
A bed or like equipment includes a loop of flexible material wide enough to hold a person lying down and a drive for material around the loop to rotate or rock the person. Preferably the loop hangs below and within the space between two parallel rollers with one or more rollers beneath the loop so that an endless belt of the material can be used.
A bed in which a rockable frame comprises two longitudinally extending members over which is tensioned an open mesh net for supporting a patient. A plurality of adjusting means are provided for adjusting the tension of the net at various spaced positions along the length of the bed to accommodate the net to the shape of a particular patient being supported. Preferably a back and head rest also comprises a net to support the patient and padded sides are provided for pivotal movement between a position extending to retain a patient on the bed and a downwardly extending out-of-the way position. The various tension adjusting means preferably engage a flexible member threaded into the longitudinal side edges of the net for spreading the transmission of the tensioning load to the net.
