Abstract
A bandage construction that includes a sterile pad of a hygroscopic material is sufficiently porous to admit air therethrough, the pad being covered on the surface facing the wound with a layer of a soft non-woven fabric. A strip-like element is adhered over the outwardly directed surface of the pad and has portions thereof extending beyond each end of the pad, and a width that is substantially identical to that of the pad. The pad is constructed of a cellular plastic foam which is hygroscopic, non-allergenic and non-toxic, while at the same time it is sufficiently porous to pass air therethrough such that the facing surface of the wound is kept dry and provided with a continuous supply of air.

4005709 - Compression bandage

A compression bandage includes a bandage strip with an absorbent layer on one side. A pressure piece of slightly deformable and slightly absorbent molded material is attached to the other side of the strip opposite the absorbent layer. When the bandage is applied and the strip wound around the injured part, the pressure pad exerts pressure through the strip and absorbent layer onto the wound, and cannot slip from the correct position.

4655209 - Surgical dressing and packaging

A compress type bandage differs from regular bandages of this type in that the bandage portion is formed of gauze having substantial longitudinal elasticity, sewn to opposite edges of a pad having two absorbent layers, at least one of which has sufficient tensile strength that tension from the bandage tails is transmitted through the pad material rather than the gauze. The multiple layers of the pad provide pockets useful for the application of medicaments, splinting and other uses, one pocket being subject to the bandage tension and the other being relatively uncompressed. In an alternative embodiment, at least the outer layer of the pad material is formed into a loop which is sewn to the gauze at a single location extending in both longitudinal directions against the gauze so that the loop can be folded upon itself to form a double thickness transverse pad.

4328968 - Protective pad for the thumb hole of a bowling ball

A protective pad to be secured within the thumb hole of a bowling ball on the side opposite from that gripped tightly by the thumb, comprising a resilient synthetic resin foam member having a right parallelepiped configuration except for one tapered edge, and a relatively friction-free synethetic resin tape having a pressure sensitive adhesive on an entire surface thereof to which a major face of the foam member is secured, the tape having dimensions greater than the foam member on not more than three sides thereof. The foam member is placed within a thumb hole with the tapered edge spaced inwardly from the entrance to the hole, and the tape is secured to the wall of the thumb hole on the sides overlying the foam member.

4526166 - Disconnectible section bandage

A bandage includes first and second carrier strips, the first strip carrying a liquid absorbent, soft, pad of material which is to be placed over a wound. The second strip carries an adhesive to be placed onto the patient's skin at a location spaced from the wound. The two strips have ends which are connected by a releasable attachment forming a third element such as a tear string which is easily manipulable to free the strips from one another. This enables lifting of the pad and first strip independently of the second strip, so that force applied to the second strip to free it from the skin is not transferable to the first strip and wound.

4860737 - Wound dressing, manufacture and use - Owned by Smith and Nephew Associated Companies p.l.c. (GB)

A low adherency wound dressing which comprises a wound facing layer, an intermediate absorbent layer and an outer layer wherein the wound facing layer comprises a conformable net of elastomer, the intermediate absorbent layer comprises a conformable open cell foam of hydrophilic polymer, and the outer layer comprises a conformable microporous film; and a process for making said dressing.
