A collecting bag for the collection of excretions from various body openings, both natural and surgical in nature, is disclosed. The collecting bag includes an inflatable collar which is inserted into a body opening prior to inflation, and which is then inflated in order to firmly anchor itself within that opening and prevent its inadvertent removal therefrom. Means are provided for inflating the collar from a point external the body. The inflating means comprises a channel located within the interior of the bag itself. Additional channel means is provided within the interior of the bag itself for use in the application of an enema.
REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
This application is a continuation-in-part of Ser. No. 265,343, filed on June 22, 1972, now abandoned, for a FECAL BAG, in the names of Michael C. Ritota and Louis P. Mancini.
A portable catheter for use by females suffering from urinary incontinency. A short catheter is held in place extending a short distance into the urethra by means which permits the wearer substantially full freedom of movement. A relatively stiff shield is fastened to an undergarment in a manner holding the shield in position adjacent to the wearer's urethral and vaginal openings. A plug means is fastened to the shield in a manner permitting it to be inserted into the vagina to help hold the shield in position. The generally tubular catheter includes locking washer means riding in a slot in said shield allowing the spacing between the catheter and vaginal plug to be varied to accommodate varying physical dimensions. A drain plug extends from the external end of the catheter to drain urine to a conventional collection bag which may, for example, be secured to the user's leg. In use, the user slips the garment over her legs, bringing the vaginal plug and catheter end into proximity to the vagina and urethra, respectively. The catheter and vaginal plug are then inserted into the respective openings, the garment is pulled into comfortable engagement with the body, and the catheter is connected to the urine collecting bag. The user can then be confident that the catheter will remain in place despite body movements.
An intravaginal inflatable member impermeable to fluids adapted to collect upon inflation, menstrual blood and also capable of [provide] providing sealable closure of the vaginal canal for the prevention of vaginal exit of menstrual blood. By being inflatable, the device is easily inserted and removed when deflated and is also capable of sealing off the blood collected avoiding the spillage of blood upon extraction and disposal. The inflation of the device can be conveniently initiated prior to insertion into vagina and completed with the device fully inserted or can be initiated and completed with the device already inserted into the vagina. Inflation of the device can be achieved without the use of an external pneumatic source, but with a self-inflating apparatus within the device. The cup shaped member can be used as a standing alone device or in combination with a vaginal tampon for the prevention of blood leakage.
A device insertable in the anal orifice of a patient for collecting excretions from the orifice comprises an excretion receiving tube with open and closed ends, a ring of resilient material fixed to the tube open end, and a thin, elongated flexible member. The flexible member has one end secured to the ring and extends exteriorly of the tube such that the device can be easily removed from the orifice in the patient by pulling the flexible member.
A Fecal Matter Collector including a tubular portion of flexible material having a portion operatively associated with a user's rectum and another portion extending through the anal opening and having on the external end thereof a removable collecting bag, and including a gas escape outlet.
