A point-of-sale terminal system including one or more keyboard terminals and associated cash drawers in communication with a control chassis having a micro-computer, a printer and power supply. Each keyboard terminal has manually operable keys for designating the various items for sale and associated display devices which, under the guidance of the computer, display the number of each item ordered. Function keys are provided for instructing the computer to total the sales price of each order with automatic tax calculation. Provision is made for the temporary storage of one or more orders with a recall feature that redisplays the order. Numeral keys are provided at the keyboard to give an alternate method of incrementing and decrementing item quantities and to provide means for effecting price and tax changes. Order changes may be effected at any time prior to the total sales price calculation that enters the sales price and item quantities into the computer's permanent memory.
A point of sale terminal includes a computer, a keyboard, and a key-controlled prompting display for eliminating a need for the attendant to memorize sales information. The keyboard has a set of first item keys each of which corresponds to a different first item. The prompting display lists a large number of second items. The keyboard includes a set of category-representing keys each of which corresponds to a different category of second items available for sale. A selected category of items is displayed when the attendant actuates a category key. The display shows prompting indicia associated with each item. The keyboard includes a set of keys having indicia associated with the indicia displayed by the prompting display.
An automobile repair estimate issuing device having a part data file made up of a first file for storing part data other than name data and a second file for storing the name data. The data file is stored in a memory having a reduced memory capacity. Input and output devices, a central processing device, the memory and a printing devices are reduced in size and weight thereby to provide a portable type automobile repair estimate issuing device which can issue a repair estimate at an automobile repairing place on the spot.
A first cash register operating in a registration mode is connected by a communication line to a second cash register operating in a calculation mode to serve customers forming a waiting line extending from the first cash register to the second. Sales data are registered by the first cash register, with the data of an earliest one of the customers being displayed on a first display unit and the sales data of all the customers being stored sequentially into respective second storage areas when a communication line is busy. When the line becomes available, the sales data are transmitted to the second cash register from the second storage areas sequentially. The second cash register stores the transmitted sales data into third and fourth storage areas in succession and provides a simultaneous display of the sales data stored in the fourth storage areas on respective window areas of a second display unit. An adder sequentially calculates the sales data stored in the fourth storage areas in response to operation of a control key. Each cash register is operable independently in the registration and calculation modes.
There is provided a money exchanger apparatus comprising exchange rate input means adapted to enter exchange rates used when exchanging moneys or securities of a single country or plural countries other than a specific country into the currency of the specific country, numerical value information input means adapted to enter numerical information such as the amount and kind of moneys or securities to be exchanged, memory means for storing numerical value information, computing means for calculating the amount and kind of currency of the specific country from the numerical value information indicative of moneys or securities of the country other than the specific country, said information being delivered by the numerical information storing memory means, and from the exchange rate stored in said memory means, and disbursing means for paying out exchange money of the specific country based on the results of computations performed by the computing means.
There is disclosed herein a data entry device designed for general use, and whose functional configuration may be readily changed to meet the specific needs of a number of different customers, each requiring a special assortment of operational features. The device (10) includes a housing (12) having a keyboard (14) including function control and data entry portions (18 and 20). In one embodiment, a plurality of different overlays (22) may be received over the function control portion of the keyboard. Each overlay carries an array of key labels (26), and is pliant enough to permit an underlying key to be actuated by depressing an appropriate key label. Tabs (30, 32, 34) projecting from the frame (24) carrying the overlay actuate switches (132, 134, 136) in the device to identify which overlay is carried by that frame. Other means of identifying the overlays to the data entry device are also shown. A different, permanent set of keys is provided for data entry in this embodiment. In another embodiment, an interchangeable mylar overlay (154) is also provided for the data entry portion of the keyboard. If the device includes a readout or display, the portion of the device (168) carrying legends for the display can also be changed with the overlay.
