A limb support and the like is formed from a block of polyurethane foam having resilient characteristics, capable of permitting the passage of air and being of such configuration as to include a continuous open topped arcuate groove extending longitudinally along the length of the block for receiving, cradling and resiliently gripping the limb of a hospitalized patient to avoid rotation of the limb supported thereby.
The invention comprises a limb support having upper, middle and lower sections. The upper section includes two compartments for receiving a fluid or ice and forming a trough to receive a limb of the patient. The middle section is in the form of an inflatable compartment for adjusting the height of the unit. The lower section includes three triangular-shaped compartments for adjusting the angle at which the unit is to be rested.
A therapeutic leg elevator having a first open-topped portion contoured to support the leg of a patient from approximately the ankle to at least the calf of the patient, and a foot portion connected approximately to the perpendicularly horizontal portion, the foot portion having an opening facing the horizontal portion so as to receive the patient's foot, the opening having a base which the patient's foot sole may contact, the opening being contoured below the patient's heel so the heel does not contact the foot portion, the opening extending upwardly beyond the end of the patient's toes and being upwardly bounded by a protective cover which is part of said foot portion, whereby the tops of the patient's toes and bottom of his heel, and optionally the sole of his foot, are protected while said foot portion is supported.
A device comprising a conical, inflated bladder to be mounted on the back of a user's leg to aid in the distribution of body weight when the user is in a squating or kneeling position.
Pillow apparatus includes a centrally disposed slot extending axially through a pillow which receives a user's head and a relieved portion beneath the slot, on the bottom of the pillow.
Apparatus is disclosed for properly supporting and positioning a patient's arm and shoulder when placed in a prone position on an operating table for laminectomy surgical procedures and the like after correct positioning of the spine is accomplished. The apparatus includes a resilient arm cradle having a trough which supports the arm distally from the shoulders to adjacent the patient's wrist which flexes to support the arm naturally bent and in which the weight of the arm is supported over a greater surface area in a manner which is particularly advantageous in preventing pressure points on the elbow. The apparatus further includes an axilla cuff which fits under the axilla and has an exterior contour which interfaces with the shape of the trough of the arm cradle in such a manner that a desired rotation of the shoulder is maintained so as to preclude brachial plexus damage.
