Process for permanently waving or straightening human hair comprising the steps of pretreating the hair with a detergent solution containing an alkali metal- or ammonium sulfite, saturating the hair with an alkaline solution of a mercaptocarboxylic acid salt, winding the hair up on perforated hollow curlers or rollers having a diameter of 10-24 mm, rinsing the hair with water and removing the excess water from the hair, in separate steps or in a combined step treating the hair with peroxide and with a polymerizate to fix and set the same respectively, drying the hair, unwinding the hair from the curlers and combing the hair in the conventional manner to provide the desired hair fashion.
A process for the permanent reshaping of hair consists in reducing the bisulfide bonds of the keratin by applying a reducing composition containing a cationic polymer and reforming the said bonds by applying an oxidizing composition in the presence of an anionic surface active agent.
A process for waving or straightening hair in which an anionic surfactant is added to the hair reducing solution and the hair is treated either during a prewetting step or during neutralization, or both with a cationic polymer product which forms a substantially water insoluble complex with the anionic surfactant in the presence of hair.
A permanent waving process is disclosed in which an essential oil is incorporated into hair fibers. The incorporated of the essential oil into the hair fiber not only provides capacity to remove bad odors resulting from freshly permanent waved hair but also gives to the hair a supple and smooth feeling. The essential oil is incorporated in the oxidizing or neutralizing solution of the permanent waving process. The essential oils employed are those containing at least one component, ingredient or constituent having an ethylenically unsaturated bond, i.e. ##STR1##
A method is disclosed for producing soft, gentle waves in negroid hair without use of curlers. Negroid hair, in the naturally kinky state is first treated with hair straightening chemicals to establish a standard reference time for carrying out a hair straightening treatment. With this reference time determined, it is then possible to treat this hair, or other similar hair in accordance with this process. An untreated negroid hair, in the naturally kinky state is wet thoroughly and hair straightening chemicals applied thereto and allowed to set for a period of 10-15 minutes, corresponding to about 70-90% of the time of exposure of the hair to the chemicals required for straightening the hair. The precise time allowed for the treatment depends on the coarseness of the hair. The hair is combed out and stretched in sections during the time of exposure to the hair-straightening chemicals. Next, the hair is shampooed using a shampoo containing chemicals for neutralizing the hair straightener. The hair is then rinsed and set and a hair softener applied. The hair is then allowed to dry without heat or blowing. The method produces soft gentle waves without use of curlers and is effective in curling hair in periods of time as short as 25-30 minutes.
