Abstract
A door lock has a frame in which a knob spindle is mounted for rotation about an axis. The spindle can be prevented from rotation on the frame by a bar movable along the axis into and out of a position in which the bar engages both the frame and a slot in the spindle. The bar is moved by a spring and by a manual button mounted in an inside knob on the frame. The spindle can also be prevented from rotation on the frame by a pin radially movable on the frame into and out of a position in which the pin engages both the frame and the spindle slot. The pin is moved by a spring and by an arcuate electromagnet disposed coaxially of the spindle and having a polepiece in position to influence an armature on the pin. The customary key-operated lock is installed in an outer knob fastened onto the spindle.

4832385 - Lock with electrically controlled setting by means of an electromagnet

Lock (1) with electrically controlled setting, comprising two rotatably mounted coaxial components (32; 52, 41), of which one is connected to a locking means in order to move it and the other to an actuating means, at least one electromagnet comprising a magnet (49) and a coil (46), one of the elements of this electromagnet being rotatably mounted coaxially relative to the said component, in order to be driven in rotation from a first angular position to a second angular position when the coil receives an electrical pulse, a connecting element (55) mounted on the said first component and designed to be shifted between an active position engaged with the second component, in order to connect the said first and second components in terms of rotation, and a retracted position, and a cam (65) carried by the movable element (46) of the electromagnet and designed to act on the said connecting element (55), in order to shift it from its retracted position to its active position when the movable element (46) of the electromagnet changes from its first angular position to a second angular position.

4633687 - Drive mechanism for key operated electronic lock - Owned by NI Industries, Inc. (Long Beach, CA)

For an electronically motivated door lock there is a key carrying magnetic coding for actuating an electronically triggered release mechanism to unlock a door. Insertion of the key in the keyway initially closes a switch to energize the electronic circuit. The electronic circuit is programmed to motivate a motor driven mechanism in successive stages to move a blocking finger into and out of engagement with a notch in a rotatable disc on a cylinder plug which operates the latch bolt. The motor rotates preferably in one direction but by use of a rotating drive pin shiftable from end to end of a transverse slot, the blocking finger is moved alternately into and out of engagement with the notch in response to the successive energizations of the motor.

4901057 - Device for securing a combination dial lock

A device for securing a combination dial lock is comprised of a base member, a bridge member, which is pivotally mounted on the base member, and a cover member which substantially envelopes both the base member and the bridge member. The bridge member includes a pin member projecting from a tip thereof for being inserted in a complementary opening in the combination dial to secure the dial against rotation. Tamper alarm circuitry is provided to generate a tamper alarm signal if an attempt is made to tamper with the combination dial or to damage the device. An alarm will also be generated if the lock remains in an unsecure state for more than a predetermined time interval, which is deemed adequate for an authorized user to conduct legitimate business in the compartment which is being protected by the combination dial lock. When both the protected compartment and the combination lock are properly secured, an electrical signal indicative thereof will be transmitted to the host controller and a visual display will inform the user that the lock has been properly secured. Means is provided for ensuring that the dial is rotated a prescribed number of times in a predetermined direction after the lock is returned to a "locked" state in order to properly "spin off" the combination.

5685182 - Door handle-mounted eurocylinder-type assembly for electronic lock and key system - Owned by Intellikey Corporation (Melbourne, FL)

A handle-operated lock and latch assembly for interfacing a Eurocylinder type of electronic lock with a rose-accessible door lock/latch mechanism employs a handle of the type used in a mechanical handle-actuated door latch, but in which the shank portion of the handle is modified to include a cavity that accommodates a Eurocylinder-configured electronic lock. The original rose is replaced by a rose having a slightly larger circular aperture, so that it may receive a rotatable collar that is configured to engage the modified handle shank, whereby the handle and the collar are rotatable relative to the rose, with the cam of the electronic lock being inserted into the door's existing lock spindle mechanism. In addition to physically interfacing the modified handle with the rose, the collar provides an annular passageway that accommodates a flex circuit ribbon extending from the electronic lock through the collar and the rose for electrical connection between the electronic lock and control circuitry external to the lock. The flex circuit ribbon has a segmented meandering shape, that allows it to form a loop around the lock spindle, which is capable of expanding and contracting around the lock spindle as the handle and collar rotate relative to the rose during operation of the door latch.

4986580 - Lock with a mechanism for locking and unlocking by means of an electromagnet

Lock (1) comprising a mechanism (25) for locking and unlocking, by means of an electromagnet (34), a member (9) connecting or designed to connect a handle or other actuating means on the one hand and at least one latch (10) on the other hand, the said mechanism comprinsing an auxiliary element (26) designed so that, in one position, it is engaged with the said member (9) and, in another position, it is released from this member, a return means (31) acting on the said auxiliary element (27) so as to stress it towards one of its positions, the electromagnet (34) comprising a magnet (35) and a coil (38), a cam (39) and a cam follower (33), of which one is carried by the movable element (37) of the said electromagnet and the other by the said auxiliary element (26) and which are designed to interact in such a way that, when the movable element of the electromagnet changes from a first position to a second position, the auxiliary element changes from one of its positions to its other position counter to the said return means, and vice versa.
