Method and apparatus for injection molding an elstomeric fishing lure body for a weedless lure between cooperating dies which together define a mold cavity. One of the dies has a long, deep, narrow rib projecting into the mold cavity to form a complementary recess in the fishing lure body for concealing the hook end of a fishhook. A reciprocable plunger extends into the mold cavity at one end to form an anchoring recess for a metal or plastic head that is to be attached to this end of the elastomeric lure body and also to form a passageway leading to the bottom of the recess formed by the rib for receiving the shank of the fishhook.
The present fishing lure has a molded elastomeric body with a deep, narrow, longitudinal recess in which the curved hook end of a fishhook is concealed. The present apparatus for making this lure includes an insert for forming this recess which is separate from the molding dies and is removable from the elastomeric body after the latter has been molded. The fishhook may be part of this insert, so as to be molded in place in the lure body, or it may be inserted into the lure body after the latter has been molded. In one embodiment the removable insert forms an inclined passageway for passing water up from the bottom of the lure body into its aformentioned recess to impart a wiggling motion to the lure as it moves through the water.
A plastic fishing bait coupling tool for fusing plastic fishing baits together to form a unique fishing bait. The tool includes a base with a heating rod outwardly extending from a perimeter side wall of the base. The heating rod has an elongate inner portion extending into the base and an elongate outer portion outside of the base. A coiled heating element for providing heat is provided in the base and disposed around the inner portion of the heating rod. The heating rod has an outer end adjacent the outer portion of the heating rod. A heating head is coupled to the outer end of the heating rod. The heating head is generally triangular in configuration and has a bottom side and a pair of upper sides converging together at an upper vertex.
A method and apparatus for producing fishing lures incorporating hook hangers which utilize a bore formed in the lure body as part of the connection mechanism. Injection molding techniques are utilized to fill cavity molds having removable inserts therein.
A shoe sole mold for molding unit soles comprised of plastic-like material, where one of the mold halves has a retractable channel forming mechanism or design forming wall portion therein. The retractable mechanism may be used to fabricate holes in the sole or make a design in the wall of the sole during injection of the material into the mold cavity. The mechanism is then retracted into its respective mold and leaves behind a formed channel or image arranged in the unit sole material after it has set, and which unit sole may then be removed from the mold cavity. The channels or holes in the soles may then be used to secure straps or the like to the soles during subsequent manufacture of sandals or the like.
A mold utilized for creating a fishing worm having an abdominal cavity that contains an attractant gel having a stimulating taste to a fish, the mold having first and second sections, with each section having a cavity portion. Each cavity portion of the mold represents a part of a desired worm configuration, with the cavity portion of one mold section being able to be brought into careful alignment with the cavity portion of the other mold section, after which molten plastic can be injected into the completed mold cavity constituted by the aligned cavity portions of the first and second mold sections. An elongate plug held in place by a small diameter supporting member is mounted in a mid portion of the cavity of the first mold section, at a position corresponding to the abdominal region of the worm to be created. Thus, upon molten plastic being inserted into the completed mold cavity, a plastic worm will be defined, with such worm having an abdominal cavity resulting from the utilization of the elongate plug. The small diameter supporting member causes a hole to be made in the sidewall of each plastic worm so created, through which the attractant gel having a pleasant taste to a fish can thereafter be injected.
