Apparatus for fixing retractors in an adjustable, predetermined position relative to a patient on an operating table. The apparatus comprises an anchor frame including a base member having at least one extension member projecting substantially perpendicular to the base member. A plurality of spaced apart, inwardly projecting anchor rings are serially arranged along the anchor frame, and a support frame, including upstanding post members is connected for supporting the base member of the anchor frame. Legs are adjustably clamped to the post members, the legs in turn being adjustably connected to the operating table. The adjustable connection of the legs to the post members is such as to clamp the post members and thus the anchor frame at a preselected and predetermined height relative to a patient on the operating table. Resilient bands are connected to preselected ones of the anchor rings, which bands include retractors thereon for separating an incision under a predetermined tension and with a predetermined opening desired by the surgeon. The purpose of this abstract is to enable the Public and the Patent Office to determine the subject matter of the technical disclosure of the application. This abstract is neither intended to define the invention of the application nor is it intended to be limiting as to the scope thereof.
An operating stage is formed by a rigid ring and is provided with a resilient wedge forming helically wound spring that forms a plurality of resilient pressure applying, suture gripping wedging clamps around the stage and positioned adjacent to the bottom outside corner of the stage.
A surgical retractor, which includes a frame conformed to fit the surface contour of the portion of the body to be operated on and at least one stay which includes an elastic member and tissue holding means. The frame has a plurality of notches spaced about its periphery and the elastic member of the stay is adapted to be inserted into one of the notches and held in place by friction to retract the tissue.
A surgical retractor for use in combination with balloon dissection of internal body tissue of a human body part to maintain an operative space created by the dissection of the internal body tissue. The retractor has a frame comprising a base with opposing sides and at least one arcuate body tissue support element extending upwardly from one side to the other side of the base so as to form an arc extending transversely over a human body part wherein internal body tissue is to be balloon dissected. As least one suture anchor element is located along the length of the arcuate support element to allow a tensioning suture extending from separated internal body tissue of the human body part being balloon dissected to be secured thereto to maintain an open operation cavity. The suture tied at one end to the suture anchor element includes a disk or suture button at the other end that is urgingly retained against the top portion of the operation cavity to facilitate maintaining an open cavity for a surgical procedure.
For use in back surgery, a known kneeling attachment to an operating table has a platform on which a patient kneels with the torso positioned over one end of an operating table and the buttocks resting against the padded crosspiece of a rigid U-shaped yoke. The invention concerns a substantially rectangular rigid frame which can be mounted on the yoke with an outboard crossarm of the frame attached to the crosspiece of the yoke and the inboard end of the frame attached to the arms of the yoke. The frame is useful for supporting surgical instruments such as retractors at a surgical wound, in particular a retraction device that a surgeon can adjust with one hand, even without looking. The frame also makes possible a new surgical procedure by which a dislocated vertebra can be moved into position by a lifting mechanism suspended from the frame.
The present invention provides a retractor assembly capable of supporting at least a tissue engaging member in a manner allowing self alignment of the member subject to the pull force of the tissue engaged by the member. The retractor assembly comprises: (i) a frame member which supports a support member; (ii) at least one tissue engaging member which possesses at least a mounting arrangement which is capable of releasably engaging the support member; and (iii) a locking member which is capable of releasably engaging the tissue engaging member with the frame member and the support member to hold the tissue engaging member(s) in a substantially immovable position.
