An insulated, water impermeable roofing system includes an array of factory assembled, laminar roofing panels self bonded to a roof deck. Each panel includes a water and vapor impermeable membrane and an insulation course coextensively overlying said membrane. The laminar roofing panels are mutually juxtaposed but laterally spaced from one another to provide a peripheral expansion zone which is filled with a water and vapor impermeable compound. The compound is plastic and self-adherent under normal ambient temperatures and therefore operably bonds to the roof deck between adjacent laminar roofing panels as well as to the water and vapor impermeable membrane. The expansion zone compound in combination with the panel membrane forms a monolithic water and vapor impermeable barrier across the entire roof deck. Concomitantly the compound forms a plastic expansion joint about the peripheral edges of each of said laminar roofing panels.
A composite slab useful as a floor or roof structure of a building. The composite slab comprises plural cellular sections which span across horizontal structural support beams, and which provide a substantially flat upper surface and plural longitudinal cells disposed below the flat upper surface. Certain and preferably all of the longitudinal cells are substantially entirely filled with concrete. Plural spaced portions disposed along each of the cells interrupts the interior surface of the cells, whereby the concrete is extended out of its normal plane in the region of the spaced portions and achieves a positive mechanical combination with the cellular section. The resulting composite slab develops predictable and reliable composite coaction between the concrete and the metal cellular sections throughout the lifetime of the building.
Gaps or seams between adjacent modular refractory fiber blanket insulation modules are filled by inserting therein strips of refractory fiber blanket. The strips are bent into a U-shape over a blade or plate and then inserted between two spreader members, called lubricators, to overcome the tendency of the blanket in the strip to adhere to the blanket in the module.
A roof construction-suspended ceiling system consists of a watertight outer layer and a layer of thermal insulation beneath it resting on a metal roof-supporting surface that has a vapor barrier. Below this there is a suspended ceiling system that has insulation placed thereon. The suspended ceiling has openings that will vent the area between the roof construction and the suspended ceiling and the above-said openings may be quickly closed in the event of a fire below the suspended ceiling system.
A method of reinsulating concrete block homes is provided in which the exterior of the cement block structure is first furred out vertically, high density polystyrene board is then applied horizontally, the butting edges of styrene board being glued, all outside and inside corners are reinforced with lath and otherwise capped, chicken wire or other support is fastened over the styrene board, and then a polymerically bonded concrete mixture is applied to the exterior surface to bond the polymerically bonded concrete mixture to the childen wire and the exterior of the styrene board to form a strong attractive shell with a thermal barrier capable of substantially saving on heat loss of the home.
A thermally efficient, protected membrane roofing system for insulating the interior of a building including a water impermeable membrane (26) and an array of factory assembled roofing panels including a drainage and insulation board (42), a vapor barrier course (44) and an insulation course (46). The seams between adjacent roofing panels is covered with a water proof, but vapor permeable, tape (48) and the panels are covered with a protective layer (50).
