4441399 - Interactive device for teaching musical tones or melodies - Owned by Texas Instruments Incorporated (Dallas, TX)

An electronic learning aid for interactive operation with an operator with capabilities for the synthesis of a tone or sequence of tones. The tone, in the alternative, is used to either prompt the operator to respond in like fashion or is in response to the operator's input of a tone or sequence of tones. In this fashion the learning aid selects a tune to be synthesized and communicates this tonal sequence to the operator who responds by attempting to mimic the sequence. An alternate operation of the learning aid is for the operator to audibly input a tone sequence and for the electronic learning aid to attempt to mimic the sequence of tones.

5944533 - Interactive educational toy - Owned by Knowledge Kids Enterprises, Inc. (Emeryville, CA)

The present invention comprises a teaching toy that invites a child's interaction using an attractive play figure, for example a stuffed animal, to present more than one instructional modality in mixed formats. The child is presented with a declarative instruction, quizzing, and logical connections are induced in the child's mind via problem solving games, songs, and visual stimuli. Particularly, the present invention teaches and reinforces a child's knowledge of letter names, letter phonetics, colors, numbers, and social manners by use of visual, audial, and kinesthetic involvement of the child. If the inventive is presented in the form of a stuffed animal, the exterior of the animal would have a plurality of indicia that the child could press. The indicia is connected to switching circuitry and those switches activate a logic circuit containing preprogrammed instruction modalities and play methods. The instruction modalities are communicated using a variety of preprogrammed fun speech patterns so that the toy appears to talk to the child and provide instruction. Each inventive toy presents least two distinct instruction modalities, for example, i) stating the name of a symbol and ii) querying a name of a symbol and providing response as a function of the answer given.

6331131 - Self inflating noise maker - Owned by Ja-Ru, Inc. (Jacksonville, FL)

A noise-maker includes an enclosed membrane having an inlet and an outlet that is filled with porous material. The noise-maker is in an inflated state when the porous material is saturated with air and a compressed state when the air is forced out of the porous material. When pressure is applied to the noise-maker, the air inside the membrane is forced through the outlet and the noise-maker reaches the compressed state. When the pressure is released, the noise-maker changes from the compressed state to the inflated state as air flows through the inlet.

5769682 - Squeezable plaything simulating humanoid figure

A squeezable toy plaything which simulates an organic object, such as a human organ, a body part, or a humanoid figure, which plaything when squeezed and released then generates a gurgling sound. The plaything includes a generally spherical outer shell formed of flexible transparent plastic film encasing a hollow inner core. The core is molded of resilient plastic material whose outer surface is contoured to simulate the appearance of the object, the core being provided with an orifice which renders the hollow core collapsible. Injected into the core through the orifice is a charge of oil or other viscous liquid. When the ball is squeezed and deformed, oil and air are discharged from the orifice into the confined spaces between the core and shell, and when the ball is then released to recover its normal shape, oil and air are then sucked back into the shell, these actions producing a gurgling sound.

5376038 - Doll with programmable speech activated by pressure on particular parts of head and body - Owned by Toy Biz, Inc. (New York, NY)

This invention relates to talking dolls of the type having internal prerecorded speech mechanisms. More particularly, the present invention relates to talking dolls of the type having internal prerecorded speech mechanisms, wherein the doll's educational speech is activated by pressing on certain parts of the doll's body and head region. Still more particularly, the present invention relates to talking dolls of the type having internal prerecorded speech mechanisms, wherein the doll's educational speech can be programmed by the user to play phrases in a desired sequence. Still more particularly, the present invention relates to talking dolls of the type having internal prerecorded speech mechanisms, wherein the doll's educational speech is programmed to advance with the child user and to educate the child user as to the names and functions of the different body parts.
