A specimen receptacle comprising, a container having a chamber for retaining the specimen, and a transparent lower end portion of reduced dimensions defining a lower end of the chamber of reduced configurations for collecting sediment from the specimen. The receptacle has a skirt depending from the container and having a lower end edge located at least as low as the bottom of the lower end portion to support the container in an upright position. The container has a cut-out portion in alignment with the lower end portion to permit unobscured vision of collected sediment in the lower end portion.
A medicine container of opaque or translucent material is provided with an aperture to allow one to clearly view the contents of the container. In one embodiment of the invention, the container is characterized by a transparent window in the cylindrical side wall thereof, while two other embodiments provide for a transparent bottom to the container.
A contact lens case for use with a contact lens disinfecting system employing one or more disinfecting tablets or catalysts and which comprises a cup having a bottom portion and a basket assembly for releasably holding contact lenses insertable into the cup. The cup is of dimentions sufficient for holding a predetermined amount of disinfecting fluid in disinfecting contact with the lenses when the basket assembly is inserted into the cup. A reaction chamber of predetermined dimensions for retaining the disinfecting tablets in close proximity within the cup for permitting occurrence of disinfecting solution-producing reactions depends from the bottom portion of said cup. There is also provided a novel, one-piece basket assembly including a cap, stem, base plate, hingedly connected baskets and latching extensions.
An analyzer for performing automated assay testing. The analyzer includes a storage and conveyor system for conveying cuvettes to an incubation or processing conveyor, a storage and selection system for test sample containers, a storage and selection system for reagent containers, sample and reagent aspirating and dispensing probes, a separation system for separating bound from unbound tracer or labeled reagent, a detection system and date collection/processing system. All of the subunits of the machine are controlled by a central processing unit to coordinate the activity of all of the subunits of the analyzer. The analyzer is specifically suited for performing heterogeneous binding assay protocols, particularly immunoassays.
The embodiments disclosed relate to determination of an item of interest in a sample. In one method, a process path comprising a process lane including a process step performance lane where a process step is performed, and a process step avoidance lane where the process step is avoided is provided. A container holding the sample is moved along the process path. The sample is introduced to the container. A reagent is introduced to the container. The sample and the reagent are mixed in the container. The container is selectively positioned in a selected one of the process step performance lane and the process step avoidance lane. The item of interest in the sample is determined based upon a reaction between the sample and the reagent.
The embodiments disclosed relate to determination of an item of interest in a sample. One embodiment relates to a structure which comprises a process path. The process path comprises a process lane including a process step performance lane where a process step is performed, and a process step avoidance lane where the process step is avoided. A first prime mover is operatively connected with the process path for moving a container holding the sample along the process path. A first pipetting system is operatively associated with the process path for introducing the sample to the container. A second pipetting system is operatively associated with the process path for introducing a reagent to the container. A device is operatively connected with the process path and is selectively engagable with the container for mixing the sample and the reagent in the container. A second prime mover is operatively connected with the process path for selectively positioning the container in a selected one of the process step performance lane and the process step avoidance lane. A reader is operatively connected with the process path for determining the item of interest in the sample based upon a reaction between the sample and the reagent.
