A granular, agglomerated, powdered or liquid detergent composition comprising a surface-active quaternary ammonium compound, a slightly water-soluble nonionic polypropylene oxide-polyethylene oxide condensation product, and either a surface-active betaine or a sultaine. The detergent composition is designed particularly for washing glassware, china, and glazed or vitreous articles. It provides not only good cleaning, especially fat removal and suspension, but also imparts to the washed articles persistent rinse water drainage characteristics which substantially minimize the filming, streaking, spotting of the washed, rinsed and air-dried articles.
Can containing food are rinsed with an aqueous solution of quaternary ammonium salt and oxyalkylene polymer (homopolymer of oxyethylene or copolymer of oxyethylene and oxypropylene).
Novel surface active agents of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, aryl, alkylaryl groups of 2-18 carbons and alkoxymethyl wherein the alkoxy group is of 2-18 carbon atoms, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are individually selected from the group consisting of methyl; alkyl of 2 to 6 carbon atoms wherein said alkyl group is substituted by an electron-donating group on the beta carbon atoms thereof; polyoxyethylene and polyoxypropylene or R.sup.2 R.sup.3 may jointly form a --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 -- or CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 SCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 -- group so as to form, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are bound, to form a morpholine or thiomorpholine ring Q is a covalent bond or ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1 is independently selected from the same groups as R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 or is ##STR3## wherein M is hydrogen or an alkali metal cation, n is 0 or 1, and X is hydrogen or an electron-donating group are of value a low foam surfactant that are stable in strongly alkaline solutions.
The application is directed to an aqueous liquid automatic dishwasher detergent composition containing a dual bleach system. The composition contains a chlorine bleach source and a bromide compound. The bromide compound is insoluble or only sparingly soluble in the aqueous product liquid composition. The chlorine bleach source can be a hypochlorite compound or a chlorine compound that reacts with water to form hypochlorite. In the wash bath at higher temperature and high volume of water the bromide compound dissolves and then reacts with a portion of the hypochlorite to form hypobromite. The active ingredients of the dual bleach system are the remaining unreacted hypochlorite and the hypobromite which provide improved cleaning performance against both proteinaceous and starchy carbohydrate soils. The aqueous liquid compositions are easily pourable and readily dispersed in the wash bath. The dishwasher detergent composition includes a surfactant, detergent builders, silicates, alkaline reagents, foam depressant and thickening agents. The aqueous liquid compositions of the present invention provide improved cleaning of dishware, glassware, china and the like, particularly in hard water, and in storage remain stable against phase separation.
The incorporation of small amounts of cationic surfactant and zwitterionic or semipolar detergent in a polyoxyalkylene nonionic detergent suppresses dye transfer in the wash.
