A film cutter attachment includes one or more tape dispensing units, each of which dispenses automatically a continuous strip of pressure-sensitive adhesive transfer tape which is applied progressively to the back of a continuous strip of developed photographic film prints as the latter is drawn intermittantly into a conventional film cutter. Each tape strip is trained about a roller on the end of a pivotally movable arm which controls tension in the tape strip and causes additional tape to be dispensed. The film cutter cuts the print and tape strips after they are joined together adhesively into individual prints with adhesive transfer tape backing. The tape backing includes a cover ply which when peeled off leaves the strip adhesive adhered to the print and exposed for mounting the print.
A pressure sensitive adhesive coating is applied to selected regions of one face of a release web, other regions of the one face being free of the adhesive coating. A photographic print is superposed on the release web face having the adhesive and the adhesive free regions, the back surface of the print contacting the adhesive coating. The release web is slit along a line that extends the length of the print and passes over the adhesive free regions. The slit forms a pair of tabs in the release web at the adhesive free regions. The tabs facilitate removal of the release web without bending of the photographic print.
Apparatus for repairing sprocket holes on strip material, such as motion picture film, with pressure adhesive tape having holes is provided with improved guide means for feeding material through a sprocket wheel mounted on a shaft at a repair station, an improved means for pressure bonding repair tape on material at the sprocket wheel, an improved sprocket design, and a cutting knife (attached to a knob which can be pushed in on the shaft against the force of a spring and which is used to turn the sprocket wheel) aligned with a slot in the sprocket wheel to cut the repair tape after repairs have been made, but only when the knife and a slot in the sprocket wheel are in a position where a pin in the knob that passes through the sprocket wheel can also pass through a hole in a wall that supports the shaft so the knife will cut only the repair tape, and not the tape and the material. A second embodiment uses a motor to turn the sprocket shaft, and a friction clutch at the end of the shaft to engage the knob. Dual tracks and sprocket wheels are provided for use of the apparatus with material of different gauges.
A Roll-fed labeling apparatus is disclosed which includes a delivery means for delivering a label web to a rotary cutting drum, and one or more cutting assemblies located on the cutting drum providing cutting means for cutting with a slicing action the web into individual labels while the web is held by a relatively negative pressure on the circumferential surface of the drum. Each of the cutting assemblies comprises a piston arranged to move the cutting means along a slot on the cutting drum to enable the slicing action to take place. The slicing action is not dependent upon a surface auxiliary to the cutting means.
A conveyance boarding pass includes a human cognizable image of a passenger as well as the travel itinerary details. The human cognizable image is collected using a device capable of generating an electronic image at a time when the identification of the passenger is verified. Upon presenting the boarding pass the identity of the bearer is checked against the human cognizable image on the boarding pass to maintain the security of the transport system. The electronic image optionally is stored in a computer database in combination with the travel itinerary details for further security and other uses.
There is disclosed herein a photoprocessing system for receiving film and processing it into the final prints. The system particularly includes modifications to the film printer for encoding identification numbers onto the roll of prints which can key sets of prints to the respective film. Also, a film advance system is disclosed wherein the film is stopped during the printing process to allow a bar code to be read from each film of a roll of films. Additionally, an automated packaging machine is disclosed wherein the prints from a roll of prints are cut apart by a continuously running knife system. A film accumulator for cutting apart and stacking sections of film after it has been printed is disclosed, as is a batch management computer system for maintaining a file of information pertaining to the film, order envelope and print processing taking place.
