A concealed, flush mounted sprinkler is disclosed which comprises a slidable deflector which, in the event of fire, is extended to an operating position by means of a compressed spring. The nozzle, a thermally responsive element, and the deflector of the sprinkler reside within a receptacle having an outer cover against which the deflector is continuously pressured by means of the spring. The cover is attached to the receptacle by means of a fusible eutectic alloy, and as the alloy begins to soften and become elastic during a fire, the compressed spring aids detachment of the cover from the receptacle while simultaneously sliding the deflector to an operating position beyond the ceiling or sidewall in which the sprinkler is mounted.
An automatic sprinkler head is disclosed for the discharge of water for extinguishing a fire in which the delivery of water to and through the head is controlled by a fusible element to which heat is supplied by a plurality of vanes.
A sprinkler head with a valve automatically detachable when the temperature is raised to such extent that there is a danger of the outbreak of a fire in a room. The sprinkler head has a water discharge valve seat in the lower center of a discoidal body, a plurality of supporting legs being formed on the outside of the valve seat. A valve in contact with the valve seat is supported by a heat sensitive sustaining unit having a plurality of levers, a fusible retainer disposed on said supporting legs holding the valve and the cover. A deflector made of a thin material having a multiplicity of sprinkling outlets is mounted on the lower part of the body. There is a cover on the outer side of the deflector which is released by the heat sensitive unit.
A concealed sprinkler head is mounted above the ceiling of a fire protected zone. The sprinkler head includes a housing within which a valve and other operative parts are contained. A decorative cover plate is secured to the housing to conceal the sprinkler head within the ceiling so that none of the operative parts is visible. The cover assembly includes a thin metallic cover plate made of a heat conductive material such as copper, and a metallic skirt including a cylindrical wall threaded on the housing, an annular flange extending outwardly from one end of the cylindrical wall, and a plurality of tabs extending downwardly from the flange. A plurality of heat insulative elements are disposed between the tabs and the cover plate. A metallic layer is attached to the lower surface of each of the insulative elements. A layer of fusible material is disposed between the metallic layer and the cover plate to secure each of the insulative elements to the cover plate through the metallic layer.
A fire protection sprinkler including a frame having an outlet opening for fire extinguishing fluid and spaced apart frame arms extending from the outlet opening to provide a support at a location spaced from the outlet opening, a sealing member covering the opening, a thermally responsive member connected between the sealing member and the support to seal off the opening during normal temperature conditions and to release the sealing member during abnornally high temperature conditions, an adapter member attached to the frame, one or more pins that are supported by the adapter member, and a deflector that is slidably mounted with respect to the adapter member via the pin or pins. Also disclosed is a clip that retains the deflector in the retracted position in a releasable fashion.
An improved concealed sprinkler head for an automatic sprinkler system. The sprinkler head includes an orifice body that is mounted above the ceiling of the building and is connected to the water line. The body has an outlet which is normally closed by a valve cap, and the cap is held in the closed position by a lever assembly which includes a lever and a leaf spring. The lever has a pair of parallel spaced arms and a tube, which houses a fusible metallic element, extends between the arms. Balls are located within the ends of the tube on either side of the fusible element and impressed into the ends of the element, and the balls are engaged with sockets in the arms. One end of the lever is engaged with an abutment on the valve body and the opposite end of the lever is engaged with the leaf spring which is fulcrummed on the abutment. The leaf spring bears against the tube and urges the tube in a downward direction. A decorative plate is positioned against the ceiling and is connected by a fusible material to a cup-shaped plastic sleeve that is slidable on the body. When the decorative plate is exposed to an elevated temperature, the fusible material will melt enabling the decorative plate to be released, and subsequently the fusible element associated with the lever assembly will melt to release the lever assembly and open the valve cap.
