6149215 - Durable slings for vehicle frame turnover machines and method of making the slings - Owned by DP Brown of Detroit Incorporated (Westland, MI)

The webbing sling has a woven nylon webbing member with a top surface, a bottom surface, a first webbing side, a second webbing side, a first eye on one end and a second eye on the other end. A strip of abrasion resistant woven material with a high coefficient of friction is sewn to the top surface of the woven nylon webbing. A liquid urethane is applied to the top surface, the first webbing side and the second webbing side between the first and second eyes. The upper face of the strip of abrasion resistant material is free of urethane. Both eyes are covered by woven abrasion resistant covers that are sewn to the woven nylon webbing and then covered by urethane.

4201399 - Towing apparatus - Owned by Ernest Holmes Division Dover Corporation (Chattanooga, TN)

A cushioning pad for attachment to a sling belt of a towing sling and for positioning between the belt and the bumper of a towed vehicle. The cushioning pad is an elongated sleeve adapted for slidable attachment to the sling belt and includes a bumper retainer at one end of the sleeve for preventing the bumper of the towed vehicle from passing over the sleeve upon a forward lurch of the vehicle. A slide preventor prevents the sliding of the sleeve upon the sling belt when the towing sling is being utilized to tow the vehicle.

5037237 - Boat hull protector and method of handling a boat

A pair of opposed protectors for protecting the hull of a boat from abrasion or other contact damage by a sling used in lifting the boat during launching, haul out or the like, each protector being in the form of an elongate member which is positioned between the boat hull and the portion of the sling which would otherwise engage the hull, each protector being affixed at one end thereof to the boat by reverse U-shaped members which releasably engage the lifeline of the boat to permit the position of the protector to be adjusted longitudinally of the boat for alignment with the sling, each protector having a polyvinyl chloride hull contacting face with a layer of cellular polyvinyl chloride or cellular polyethylene backing material bonded thereto, a two sided pressure sensitive tape being affixed to each protector adjacent the opposed end thereof for further releasably affixing each protector to the boat. The opposed ends of the protectors in a pair are adjacent to one another, but do not transmit tensile loads therebetween. A second, like pair of protectors is used when the boat handling device uses a second sling which is spaced apart from the first sling, the second pair of protectors protecting the hull from damage by the second sling.

4441748 - Strip thimble

A means for protecting hoisting slings and/or their loads is described. The device includes a strip of uniform width and indefinite length comprising multiple plies of woven webbing, a plurality of spaced channels between a first pair of adjacent plies, and a plurality of friction straps, each secured at one end between a second pair of adjacent plies so that the opposed free end extends perpendicularly from a longitudinal edge of the strip. Each friction strap corresponds to one of the plurality of channels and is about as wide as its corresponding channel so that it fits snugly therein. The device is interposed between the sling and the load and is attached to the sling by encircling the sling cable with the straps and passing them through their corresponding channels so that the sling is firmly engaged by the device.

4124244 - Protective pads for overhead lifting

A pad to be disposed between a load and a sling. The pad has at least two woven Nylon bands or layers joined together by a yieldable, flexible adhesive. The warp threads of the bands are respectively angularly oriented.
